Default Problem...

I'm having new issues....I discovered that I've never leared how to take a compliment....34 years old and it's new to me...more and more people are talking to me about my weight loss and how 'good' I look...I seem to get kinda embarassed ... sometimes I even catch myself blushing...what do you say when a guy you've known for years comes up and suddenly says..."Man, your lookin' pretty good there mamma?" Am I just supposed to smile and say thanks?....people that never noticed me in the past and now talking to me. What's up with that? I can't (or don't seem to want to) grasp the fact that people are actually that shallow...how do these same people who have passed my by for years suddenly have so much to say to me now? I used to be a real 'keep to myself' kinda person...now it's almost like they're making me come out of my shell...all these people, striking up conversations with me now simply because I lost weight???? It amazes me...am I in the wrong to think that these people are simply shallow?

I here that!!! the first time around when I did this diet and lost the weight everyone and their brother couldn't wait to tell you how good you look and ask how you did it. My advice smile say thanks and leave it at that. You are still the same person just a healthier version now. If they didn't have anything to say before I bet they won't have a lot now. You have done a great job. I know that if it wasn't for you somedays I would have just given up.

Thank-you my friend! You just gave me a huge boost too! It's great to know the time I spend on here helps others as well as myself! I'm so happy to hear people read this and can feel for where I'm coming from, get motivation from my 'ups as well as 'downs'...it really does make you feel good....especially to know that we're not alone in this 'battle of the bulge!" We're all in this together! We can do it!!

I have a hard time taking compliments as well. sometimes you just have to practice saying thanks and smiling!

I don't know that it is people being shallow, but I do think it is part of human nature to respond more positively to thinner more attractive people than overweight people. Or maybe I'm just shallow too! I think overweight people can make others feel uncomfortable or unsure of what to say or do for fear of offending perhaps, so easier not to interact at all. And so as you lose weight, it becomes easier for others to interact with you from their end and you may need to learn how to interact back. As for the "you're lookin' good mama" kinds of responses, men are pigs! What else do you need to know?

From what I have read or observed I don't think you are alone in this at all and it seems to be a common issue, perhaps more for women than men. Being happy and being thin are not really linked in any way. There are happy fat people and miserable thin people. We have to learn to like ourselves along the way and be confident in our own skins at whatever stage we are at first. Just becoming thin won't make us happy or help us come out of our shells. There's often "work" on an emotional and pychological level that has to go on with the physical work of losing weight. I think you're just working through some of that as you go along.

I kind of find it interesting how people who knew me both fat and thin react to me vs. those I meet now that only view me as someone who eats healthily and is relatively fit. The latter ones tend to make a lot less of a big deal about it. And I find the ones who are surprised I have been able to maintain even more humorous.

Just be yourself in this moment. Be the best "you" you can be and don't worry about anyone else or their shallowness. Your true friends will always reveal their true nature in other ways and the rest can go to heck anyway! It's an amazing journey on a number of different levels. Enjoy it, embrace it and accept it and keep smiling! That always baffles 'em anyway!
