I won't be taking one this year, but I can live vicariously through you.

My bf and his son will be touring Washington, D.C. and then moving on to New York City and visiting Niagra Falls in June.

Going to the beach in June. Now that might sound great but I live in Washington and June can be cold, rainy and chilly so going to the beach usually doesn't mean tanning in the sun, it means beachcombing or tidepooling or whale watching.
We have a Motorhome and with the price of gas we were just going to stay local, but then I found out tha Washington has the 3rd most expensive gas in the Nation, Hawaii and Calif being more expensive, so I think we'll head to Oregon and play it by ear.

His work is so busy during the summer the only time he can take off is jan and feb,well where ya gonna go then? We might run down to yellowstone over the fourth of July tho.

well i'm taking the first two weeks off in july..(i dont know how this board is gonna manage) kidding...just going camping...nothing fancy...but the way i look at it its two weeks out of work and my house...away from my daughter for two weeks my dog.....just me and b/f friend this year....my daughter dosnt want any part of it this year...okay then bye bye....but i do have a friend coming to the house to watch over her..b/f wants to take the dog...i do not...i love my baby but we have taken every year for six years and she is nothing but a pain in the butt...she is so little i'm always scared that she is gonna tango with a chipmunk and get the crap kick out of her...she chases them... then i have to go chase her....its just a pain...but she is a star up there...they all love her cause she is soooooo small.....we have people that we dont even know come to our site just to hang with chi-chi...my fear of not bringing her we wont be as popular...lol... and yes we rough it..we are tent trash for two weeks...i love it....:happy: ...

I'm going on vacation in two weeks and I want to tear my hair out because it's so close, but sooooo far!!!

We haven't been on a good vacation for a few years so I'm so excited to get away. And for 2 weeks!!! DECADENT!!!!! We are on a tight budget so we are definitely playing it close to the vest.

First we're going to Sonoma - wine country, north of San Francisco and west of Napa Valley. This is where the wine we like to drink - red zinfandel, is made. We'll spend a couple of days bopping around from winery to winery, we plan to do picnic lunches and we do have a nice dinner booked at a country inn for one of the nights there. We're staying at a basic motel (Best Western) and not a bed & breakfast. I get so tired of people asking, "what B&B we are staying at". We can't afford to but hey I am on this trip!!!

Next we will go up to the town of Eureka, which is in Northern California. We're using this town as a base to explore Redwoods National Forest. We will do day hikes there. One day we will trek into the redwoods and do some real exciting trails, then the next day we will take a slow day and just bum around. Then the third day there we will do coastal hiking like Lynne and walk the cold beaches and tidepools. They even have a beach up there that ELK like to hang out at. I want pictures of Elk on the beach!!! Again we are staying at a basic hotel.

The third leg of the trip ends up in San Francisco for three days. We are staying at a motor inn that was recently rennovated and includes free parking -- something rare for SF!! And it is in a really good neighborhood, right around the block from restaurants, shopping, etc... We have a nice dinner booked in SF too and we are going on self guided walking tours (just us, no group) in this area.

We also have learned through the years to pack very light. When we travel to Europe, all we take is a back-pack each, so that is what we are taking on this trip. If I can trek through Europe with one bag for 2 weeks, I can do it here!!!! We stash a small day pack in the back packs and use these around town. That way we can store snacks, water, camera or whatever other goodies we want available during the day.

No vacation for us this year. We normally get a 4 day weekend at the beach to go fishing. Well, they're tearing down our fishing pier for one thing and the other thing is that we have to go to WV for Christmas this year (I've never met John's family) and we cannot afford to do both. So I have to give up my vacation to spend time with John's family. Can anybody tell that I'm not exactly thrilled about it?

Yeah, MOG, now that you mention it I did pick up on that!

Similar for me. No vacation, but we may visit my in-laws in Boise. I wonder how hot it gets there in the summer...

Sounds like fun to me French!! Some of our greatest memories with the kids when they were little, was camping in a tent and roughing it LOL.

Yeah and being tent trash ROCKS!!!!!:joy:
