It's not so much the carbs in beer but the sugar load. Beer is very high-glycemic and the sugar will cause cravings. You can have an occasional cheat once you are in Phase 3, but for now it's best to abstain from beer. Lower carb beers are a step in the right direction but they are still too high in their glycemic load. Just look at the beer belly effect and it's pretty easy to see that the definitely contribute to overweight on our society!
Red wine is the alcohol choice recommended for it's health properties and it is lower in sugar than beer. And white wine is lower in calories than red wine.
Perhaps you can try to gravitate to these drinks or none at all?
