Does anyone have any pointers on beating a lie detector test? It's not for anything criminal. I might need to pass one for a job that I want and I have one itty bitty blemish from 30 years ago that could disqualify me. I think it's so silly that I could be passed over for this job because of something minor that happened so long ago, but those are the rules. :Sarcastic:

That You Would Have To Believe The Lie Yourself...if You Can Convince Yourself That What Happen Never Happened Then I Guess You Would Be All Set.... Yeah, I guess that it's actually a good thing that they told me that question would be on there. It gives me time to think about it and try to stay calm. I think polygraphs measure heart rate, pulse, breathing and perspiration. So, it's important to stay as calm as possible.

Polygraphs aren't reliable anyway. You can't convict on one alone. And I think that a sociopath could probably pass one with no problem.

There are worse things to have done than smoke less than half a joint 30 years ago. At least it wasn't rolled around some crack!

Or maybe you can be real cunning with the interpretation of the question and your answer...like if the test says do you smoke pot, you can honestly say no and believe that because you don't now...

only if the question asks have you ever smoked then I would probably be truthful and say yes I have a long time ago and then if they ask do you still, then you say no.

I agree with Mindy, if they ask "do you smoke pot" or "do you do drugs" you can honestly say no. Didn't everyone smoke back then? at least tried it? For goodness sake tell them to get over it.

Well, I guess I can just kiss that job good bye. I spent a whole day last September doing a physical agility and multiple written tests to get on the list. I worked HARD! I was one of only about 6 women who passed that day! And I was the oldest and heaviest female there who made it!

If I tell a lie, I'm screwed and if I tell the truth, I'm still screwed! I can't believe it's all over because of something so stupid!!!

They called me last week to see if I was still interested in being on the list and he told me that a polygraph test was required, along with an FBI check. He said that one of the questions is, "Have you EVER smoked pot?" And he said that if I have ........ it would be grounds for disqualification. No if's and's or butt's is what I got from that conversation.

Maybe I should just call and tell them that I took 2 puffs off a joint when I was 18 and get it over with. :hide:
