| I started the SB diet a bout a month ago. In the first two weeks I lost about 7 lbs. Now that I'm in phase two I've SLOWLY lost about 1 lb. But... I've now gained 3 lbs back. I guess I'm eating too many nuts? I'm not indulging in bread, rice, etc... I'm very frustrated and I'm afraid that I will not be able to continue losing weight. Also, I'm afraid now to add more "good carbs" into my daily meals. UGH!!! I read something about diet sodas and artifical sweetners can stall your diet... is this true? I do have a diet soda addiction. I have at least 1 or more a day. AND being a TX girl... I've been drinking my ice tea with sweet & low too. HELP!? :Sad2: | ||||||||||

Congrats on losing the 7 pounds! As I understand it, nuts can be a diet buster. I read it many times on the official SBD web site. There are portion limits for nuts and I know it's so easy to go over limits on those tasty morsels. I have to buy snack size baggies and divide mine up into single serving portions. Then I only limit myself to one bag. You're definitely not alone with your love of nuts. In fact, I think a few have decided to stay away from them all together until they reach their goal weight. That's pretty drastic though. Try the snack size baggy idea and limit yourself to one bag. Sam, how do you feel and how do your clothes fit? That's a better indicator of weight loss than the evil bathroom scales. I once lost a couple of pounds after I had a good bowel movement. Sorry to mention it but that's the truth. Once I started exercising more and couldn't make the scales move lower no matter how hard I tried! But, my clothes were getting baggier and baggier! So, I only weigh myself about once a month now. It's just too discouraging if I weigh more often. There are so many reasons for our weight to fluctuate from day to day, especially being females. You know, I've heard some people claim that they'd been stalled by sodas or artificial sweeteners. It's never affected me in any negative way at all. I drink way too many sodas every day and eat way too much sweetener and I still manage to lose weight just fine. If you think that might be your problem, you could try giving them up or limiting them for a week or two and see if that helps. I'm not saying that it can't be a staller but that it's just never happened to me before. Your milage may vary. What's your height? How much do you weigh and how much are you wanting to get down to? You know that if you only have a small amount to lose it's going to go slower than someone who's my size. I hope I've helped you some. Please read some of the posts here and hang in there. You CAN lose the weight!!

| Thanks for the encouragement. I agree.. the bathroom scale IS EVIL! My weight fluctuates so much. I feel as though I'm on an emotional roller coaster. To answer your question, I am 5'4" and I want to lose about 30lbs. So, I've got about 23lbs to go. It has been a challege to fit the diet into vegan terms, but I've been able to manage so far. I'm eating a lot of salad, veggies, veggie meat, soy cheese, and a little plain soy milk.... and of course nuts. Ugh... I think I will have to try the baggie trick. | ||||||||||

| Do you eat the veggie burgers, like Bocca burgers? I was surprised that I actually liked them! I've used Morningstar Farms crumbled veggie meat, too. I didn't like the veggie sausage links very much though. Do you eat anything like that? Btw, I'm not a vegan but sometimes I wish I were. Still, I wouldn't give up milk and eggs. I guess I just don't see what the harm is with those two items. I do find that when eating the South Beach way in phase two I consume a lot less meat. Good luck with your weight loss journey! | |||||||||||

| I would prefer to be a vegan because it is healthier. My family of tried and true meat and potato men--pretty much dictate the menu most of the time. However, I am slowly fixing healthy choices that will go along with their palate and satisfy my vegan tastes. Has anyone used any of the vegetarian Loma Linda products on SB? | ||||||||||

| but now (after about two years and keeping my weight off) - I think about 70 pounds, I don't believe in weighing often, I think it makes you more conscious about your weight when what I really want is better health. Anyway, I have never cared much for meat but have let about 10 pounds slip back within a month! I think it is stress related. Now I am in a panic because I do not want to eat meat but I loved the SBD. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/doing-south-beach-vegetarian-way/79-vegans.html It isn't because of the USDA beef recall, I am an avid animal rights activist and already knew of it and many more things that I cannot tolerate, I will not go into it here. Anyway, I would really like a book for people who don't eat meat. I would not say I am Vegan as I can eat cheese/milk, etc. I have held off my weight so long, I do not want to see it go back up...in fact I would really love to lose well, about 30 pounds not that I have gained 10. :OMG: Any words of wisdom? Peace | ||||||||||

Also, in the body they actually turn to methyl alcohol. This source of information comes from a book I refer to a lot: "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," by James F. Balch, MD and Phyllis A. Balch, CNC. I have the second edition...I hope they have a newer one. I eat steamed brown rice with steamed vegetables, shake some good oil on it like canola and it is wonderful. I also eat only WHOLE grain bread, I prefer the black German kind. As long as you don't eat too much, personally. I believe this is good for you. Am I wrong?
