| Does anyone know how reliable those features on elliptical machines and treadmills? (The ones that have you enter your weight) I know they're probably not exact, but do they give a good estimate? Also, if I wanted to start working with weights, what should I start with? I just joined a gym, and they have all this scary equipment, I don't know what any of it is!! :Sad2:

| Congratulations on making a commitment and joining a gym! WTG! I haven't a clue as to how reliable they are as far as calories burned. You know, I get a bit intimidated by all those big weight lifting machines at the gym. But, if you paid all that money to join, there should be someone there to show you how to use them. Sarah would be the one to answer your questions. Hopefully she'll be around soon. Here, check out this older thread. You might find it helpful. http://sbdbb.com/showthread.php?t=108 | |||||||||||

But if you're paying the gym fees, they should definitely have someone to give you guidance. You might try telling them the personality-type of trainer you'd do best with. If you don't do so well working with one, ask for another. Lots of people, all around, enjoy giving advice, especially if it's solicited! (Of course, you need to take what people tell you with a grain of salt, IMO.) | ||||||||||
