| Then. I've belonged to the gym at work for years. And for years I'd spend 2 hours in the middle of the day trying to talk myself into going. I don't have to get in my car. I get free one-on-one personal training, and certainly convenient hours in the day to go... either at lunchtime or after work. And so it went for years. Sometimes I went, sometimes I didn't, and sometimes I took a few months off. Now. I look forward to going to the gym! I'm there 5-6 times in 5 days. I get the extra day in because there's one day that I have to kill 2 hours before going to concert chorus rehearsal. I live 45 mins away, so I go to the gym at lunchtime as usual that day, and then again after work to kill the time. On my own I do cardio, obliques, abs. With the trainer I do weight training and abs twice a week. I recently joined another gym near home. It's a beautiful gym, but the REAL beauty is the fact that it cost me only $10/month. So that's my backup gym for days I might not be able to get to the gym at work, or just feel like an extra workout. I know one thing for sure... my 34 yr. old daughter, although little, couldn't keep up with me in the gym. I just had arthroscopic knee surgery, and haven't been to the gym in a week. Now I realize that although the proceedure was a relatively simple one, it takes time to be 100% again. I HATE that I can't go to the gym, and worry that even though I'm keeping it Beachy, I could lose a little ground. I will go next week to do upper body weights in such a way that I'm sitting in one place... not getting up and down to do each thing. I will try 5 mins on a bike, see how that goes, and gradually increase the time on the bike at 5. min. intervals. I think in about a month I'll be able to use the eliptical and rower. That may be wishful thinking... but for now that's the plan. (Then in June I get the other knee done... all due (we think) to an over agreesive workout on the Smith Machine doing squats) Sorry to babble on so much. | |||||||||||

| I know what you mean, Janet. Now that I do it, I really miss my exercise on days I can't do it. Partly because I know how easily I could get out of the habit again. And I know that doing it day by day helps keep those pounds off. Sounds like you're on top of it, but I was wondering if you've checked with your physical therapist and trainer for what you could do in the meantime. I've been enjoying videos at home. I know that in the library there are videos for people who are sitting. Every little bit helps. Hang in there. | ||||||||||
