| Anyone have any suggestions to vary a walking routine? I have lower back issues so walking has been the exercise of choice but once in a while I need something new | ||||||||||

| Walking is not my area of expertise but a few ideas came to mind. 1. Use ankle and/or wrist weights/very light dumbells to increase resistance and "work" being performed. 2. Alternate walking backwards at times. It uses different sets of muscles and will obviously change your perspective up a bit. Be careful of walking into things or tripping though! 3. Alternate pacing. Speed walk a block or two, then normal walk to recover. Repeat as often as you can. This is similar to a light version of the concept of interval training. If you can find a copy of the new "supercharged" SBD book (library maybe?) I think he has some specific interval type exercises that he recommends as well. The more you can switch things up, the more you keep your body guessing and getting too efficient at whatever you are currently doing. | |||||||||||
