| Sorry if this question has already been asked I did a search & didn't get any results. Ive been going to the gym and I was wondering if it it best to do strength training first & then cardio or the opposite? I had heard that if you lift weights that it should be weights 1st. then cardio. I don't lift weights but I use the resistance machines. Does any one know if it is the same rule? Thanks in advance for any info you can send my way.

| I have read that too. The rationale I remembered was that if you exhaust yourself doing cardio first, you are more likely to be less careful with alignment and form while doing weight/resistance training and perhaps introduce more risk of injury. You can also split them up onto different days! note: I really don't have much traditional exercise expertise though. If there is someone at the gym available to ask a quick question like this, I would ask them! | |||||||||||

| when i was going to the gym they told me that you should do about 10min of cardio-type as part of your warm-up before lifting... reason being it gets your heart rate up so you burn more calories during weight lifting. my trainer suggested walking 10 min at a fast pace, so not to get tired but to raise heart rate.

| my personal trainer told me to do a day of cardio and then a day of weight training...told me NOT to weight train every day... I found doing more cardio really amps up the weight loss...if your looking to get things moving along, do more cardio and squeeze in the weights...but....that's just what my trainer from little old Michigan here told me...so.......can't say it's a GOLDEN RULE or anything... Heck, if your really motivated, do some cardio in the morning and your weights at night....then you get the best of both!....I did my workout w/weights at the gym and then did a bike ride that night...I felt pretty good....your body will tell you when you've had too much of a good thing...until then...work it girl!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||||||

| Thank you everyone for all the great info. You guys are so helpful. I go to the Ymca. They have a free program that when you join the Y that you can meet with a wellness coach. :Love Doctor: but you have to make an appt. So I need to get busy and do that. Also there are trainers in the gym.
