| Thanks for taking a look at my running journal. Actually, the knee brace is holding my knee in place. My next step is to start strength training. I did order the Richard Simmons toning tape with bands and had great success with that in the past. Any suggestions on DVD's that are great for toning?

| Have you heard of the "Slim In Six" series of exercise tapes and dvds? I just finished the first one "Start it Up" and it has both aerobics at the begining and toning at the end. There are 4 tapes all together and you do the first for one week and the second one for weeks 2 and 3 and so on until you're through 6 weeks. And then the last one is for week seven and it's called "Keep It Up". I bought mine used from eBay. But you can buy them new off the website for Beachbody.com | |||||||||||

| I'm so happy I found this thread!!! I used to run track in college but I had a lof of injury problems (the coaches kinda skimped on my recovery/rehab time and never really got ahead). Anyway, I've been taking it pretty slow the last 12 months and I am now thinking about getting back into some more serious training and running again. I'm only on day 9 of phase 1 so I'm a little nervous about training with no real carbs. Anyone have any thought/suggestions? Cheers, Kate | ||||||||||

| I just started back up again a couple of months ago. Last year i was runing 2-3 miles a day, now i'm runing 1.5 miles a day (sometimes i'll do 2 runs morning and night), trying to work my way back up to 2 or 3. I started on a treadmill, walking. Started the couch to 5k plan on coolrunning.com and was up to 5k in a bout 6 weeks. that was on the tread mill. then i started running outdoors which is an entirely different run! I'm hoping to be back up to about 2.5 miles (outdoors) by june. We have a cottage up north that's on a very hilly country road, so now that the weather is nice i'll start running up there again. It was the hill runs that really improved my stamina i think. K-8 don't worry too much about the carbs, do what you can. When i was running up to 5k I was on atkins, and keeping my carbs pretty low. I had no issues. Just make sure you are getting in enough protein and calories. | ||||||||||

| Sadie147 thanks for the reply! I think I have been keeping my calories and protein slightly too low. I normally workout after work around 5:30pm and by the time I get everything done all I want to do when I get home (at 7:30pm) is go to bed!!! I'm going to try to bump my meals a little today and see how that works out for me. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything detrimental to my body! Your post about the difference between running outside and on the treadmill made me laugh. I went the opposite way. I have always run outside and recently I have done a few short runs on the treadmill .... the first time I was so "dizzy" when I got off I nearly fell over!!! | ||||||||||

| I am new to SB today and I would love to join in on the runners club if I can. I'm not really a runner, but I would like to be. I will definately have to start out small, like 10 - 15 minutes at a time, but I know I can do it. Is it too late to join? Thanks!!! lifernow | ||||||||||
