I am really stressed right now with my hubbies job situation and such so Hopefully everyone can Bear with me as I get through that.

I'm sorry you're stressed, Sarah. I would have started the new thread but I probably had my head up my arse and didn't notice we needed a new one.

See you tomorrow!

I've decided this week to add another 5 mins onto my runs (i run outdoors); so yesterday i did 35 mins..going to do the same today. arms and legs at the gym yesterday and 15 mins of stairmaster. I've also started up my pilates again, i kept saying i was gonna do it and never started. it's the best thing for abs... I did 25 mins pilates this a.m. will head to the gym today too.

Jen,

Way to go, getting re-focused on your exercise!!

Pilates is the best for my abs too.

How do you fit it in with your cardio/resistance? With time constraints,

What type/teacher do you use?

What do you think is the minimum amount at a time that's effective for abs?

Can you do just certain ones for the abs?

How often do you think you need to do them?

P.S. The yoga I've been doing a bit of since you suggested it is really strengthening my core. Now it seems so much more natural & less risky to do Pilates!

I am guilty I don't do abs very Much but, in all honest you can work your abs at every workout this is what I di. If I am lifting weights I make sure that I contract my abs as I lift I don't even notice it any more. When you first start doing this you're abs will be sore. I find I almost always have my abs contracted and work them out all day long LOL. I only dedicate 1 day per week for my abs and I do them for 30 minutes and do 4 different types of exercises for them. It doesn't take much to have nice abs really but, the big thing is getting the fat off of them that's why cardio and resistance training is sooo important.

Rest day for me today too...30 mins frisbee throwing with the dog..that was about it. oh and i did my 20 mins pilates.

Nancy, I only do 20 mins of pilates 3x and i've found that to be enough in the past. I really like the instructors from this company's dvd's http://www.gaiam.com/retail/category...Fitness&Page=1 I also have Winsor Pilates 20 min workout though mari winsor sort of gets on my nerves. I have yoga conditioning for women and pilates for weight loss with Susan Deason from that link above. as well as an abs dvd with Ana Caban. I think pilates in general is good for your abs though..the abs dvd workout is almost identical to the Winsor one (and it was cheaper).

As for finding time? I'm very lucky, my company has me working from home full time so i can make time during the day, though still i find it hard sometimes to find the time. Sometimes it's good to actually try to set a work out schedule, i need to do this with my running or I tend to get off track...if you schedule days it makes it easier. that's why i like pilates too....you only need 20 mins. once you get used to thte workout you can even do it yourself without the tape. I like writing down the program and doint it myself.

sarah you are right about getting the fat off of your abs...We can all have nice abs but never see them if we don't get rid of the fat..and that's why we need cardio. I've also got a heriditary 'belly' all the women in my family have fatter midsections... I also do contract them when i work out. and i do my chest flys on a balance ball, i find that is a good abs workout too.

I think I'll be able to contract my abs more when I get them stronger.

Thank you for the pilates info, Jen. That's encouraging to know I don't have to do a long session every day to get fitter abs. Once I learn some of the exercises, I can do them while the television's on. That'll make it more doable.
