Default Gave Up on Atkins

I just gave up on Atkins and switched to South Beach, starting today.

I was on Atkins for over a month, and lost about 1 pound.

Did I cheat? On Atkins, you can only have 3 Splendas (or other sweetners) per day. On some days, I had 4 or 5, but geez, does that mean zero weight loss?

Maybe Atkins only works with zero rule-breaking. In that case, I just couldn't do it.

I feel very disappointed. But I'm going to start over, do South Beach, and see what happens.

I really hope this works.

One more item about my Atkins failure. I was also exercising a good bit -- a 3 or 4 mile walk, plus 20 minutes on the Stairmaster or Elliptical.

I was always comfortable at 150 lbs., but I slowly inched up to 193, after working in offices for a couple of decades -- people always bringing in cookies & cakes and junk.

I'm 191 now, so hoping to lose 41 more pounds.

Oh, one other note. About 5 years ago, I went on a super low-fat diet, and got down to 155 lbs. Took me about 6 months. It was hard work.

Then I gained the weight all back.

Red's standard rule of thumb. Don't go ON a diet. CHANGE your diet.

Maybe you weren't eating enough calories on atkins to allow you to lose weight? It's not a matter of minimizing calories, but finding the optimal differential between intake and expenditure. IMO, SB isn't even really a "diet". It's just clean healthy eating and maximizing nutritional content for the amount of calories consumed. It works when you work it. over time. Worry less about how much you lose how quickly, and figure out how to find an eating program you can enjoy for the rest of your life. There are no short term solutions. zip. zilch. nada. eat right. move more. give it time. make it a habit and lifestyle. Lifestyle changes are never easy. They can however be exceptionally worthwhile! :Jump Rope:

ooohhhh....my what a handsome avatar you have there...(grin)...look anything like you?...(crap...did I just write that?....sorry, that's the "new-me" coming out again..I'm a bit braver these days than I used to be...lol)

You are going to be SO much happier living the SB way! I don't know ANYONE who would choose Atkins over SB...not if they are doing SB right...lol

Hey, you got a great avatar yourself. Oh, that's you! ;-)

Things are going great for me. I'm down 7 lbs. right now. Way better than I did on Atkins. AND, I feel MUCH better.

I'm also doing the Stairmaster & Eliptical everyday. That's helping too!
