| Hi my name is Linda and I am from Oregon. I bought the SB diet book about a week ago and today I am going grocery shopping and will be filling my house with all the food on the diet. I have a 2 year old and I am hoping to loose the "baby" fat. I gained about 30 lbs with my pregnancy. Now I am 5 ft tall and 170 lbs. I am hoping to eventually get down to about 120 lbs. I realize this may take a while, but then as we all know it also took a while to put on. My specific goals are to: follow the plan precisely, being realistic about the wieght loss, and to take it one day at a time. I have made sure to surround myself with a support system for those off days that I want to deviate from the plan. Anyway, just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. I was also hoping to ask some of the veterans a question......The phase one of the plan calls for a vegie juice cocktail. What exactly is this? Can I buy it at the store or do I need to make it home? Your help is much appreciated and boy oh boy..... ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/introduction-forum-just-say-hello/451-i-am-soooo-glad-find-you.html AM I GLAD I FOUND YOU!!!!!!! Linda | ||||||||||

| Here's a big WELCOME to you, Linda! I'm so glad you found us. :Hug1: I think you have some good goals there and an excellent attitude. A good support system is so very important in your weight loss endeavors. I hope to start a thread on that very factor in the near future. The veggie juice cocktail they refer to in the book is a V-8 like juice. Some people don't care for tomato juice or the veggie juice cocktail. If you aren't fond of it, you can try getting your veggies in by making veggie omelets or having left over veggies from dinner the night before. Again, welcome to the forums and I hope you'll stick with us. | |||||||||||

| Thank you! I had a feeling it was V-8 and I actually do like it. My next question would be...shouldn't we be concerned with the amount of sodium? I am a salt lover, so I don't mind. I was just surprised since that has always been the downfall about V-8. Oh, well, I will be buying some tomorrow. Tomorrow is my first day and I am a little worried since I will have to be responsible about making my own meals. I am a full time working mom and it is tuff balancing work and home. I know that I am committed, but I am afraid I will mess this first two weeks up....but I guess that it is just part of the committment. Anyway, thanks for the gracious welcome to both you and Deblynn!! Linda | ||||||||||

| The SBD stance is that salt restriction is not a big concern. Certain people with high blood pressure need to watch sodium intake, but this is a minority of people. In general they don't suggest you overdo the salty foods or use a salt shaker at the dinner table. The SBD web site says that the relationship between sodium and hypertension has been overrated in general by the medical community. Quote:
I think it would be really beneficial to teach your children to eat healthy foods at an early age. I wish I would have done that when my son was small because his eating habits are terrible and he's always been overweight. Whatever you decide to do, remember to emphasize the importance of healthy eating. Children of any age are impressionable. Please try not to overly worry about messing up. I made plenty of mistakes when I first started. It's part of the learning process. Life on the beach is very cool. | |||||||||||
