Default My name is Joel, and I'm a carb addict.

Hello, everyone! How are you all doing?

I'm Joel... 22, living in Omaha, Nebraska. I'm 5'2", and I currently weigh 255 lbs. YIKES! I know, I know... I've got to get this weight off.

My endocrinologist suggested I start the SB diet last week. I picked up the book, read it, and I started yesterday.

I've got a lot of work to do, and of course when a person is struggling, a support system is what they need. I read some of the threads before joining, and I joined because I see there is a lot of support here.

I'd like to offer my support to other SBers, and receive the same.

Anyway, happy lifestyling to everyone, and I look forward to interacting with everyone in the forum!

Have a great day!

Joel

welcome Joel. hey man, its not as much hard work as your thinking, SB is about eating healthy food..

add some exercise, portion control (to some degree) and you will be a thin man again.

I dont know you so there could be a eating disorder or something going on, but if your like most of us, me for sure...time kind of got away from you, you didnt practice the best eating habits and you have not worked out very much...

you have made a great choice in coming here buddy...dont think of this as a diet as much as a new way of living, a healthier way of living..this is not a low carb diet, its eating good carbs..a banana instead of a snickers bar, popcorn instead of chips, etc etc..you get the point..fresh veggies and fruit, whole grains, good cuts of meat...your going to love it.

ok ok the first two weeks will be kinda rough....

we will help you through it.

Jon

Thanks for the "welcome"! I'm headed to bed, and just wrapping up day 3. I was planning on heading to the gym tonight, but I got slammed with 200 questions today, due tomorrow. Ahhh, the joy of college life.

You're right though, Jon, the poor food choices, lack of working out, and all of that has caught up to me. I was a 4 letter varsity athlete... gave it up after high school, and that was the worst decision I have made thus far.

School is rough on my sleep schedule, with all the homework and studying. Most nights I can MAKE time, if I can't FIND time, but tonight was completely out of the question for the gym. So I'll go do a couple of rounds of jumping jacks, some push-ups and body-weight squats and climb into bed.

I appreciate the support, and will continue in my new HEALTHY lifestyle, as well as continue to be productive here on the forum. It really is a cool thing, to see so many people coming together.

Joel

Welcome - yes, the first 2 weeks can be kind of tough and I'm so glad that at 22, you're doing something about your eating/exercise. I'm 45 now and very much regret letting things slide - I used to play sport every day (hockey, badminton) but somehow gave it up when I got married - huge mistake. The following years just saw creep on creep on till now when I've got about 50lbs to lose! I've recently started to feel creeks and groans from my body, so this is my incentive to finally lose the flab and get fitter - I had this vision of needing a walking frame by the time I was 50

Today, the only creeks and groans I'm feeling are as a result of starting the gym again

Good luck with both your studies and the SB way of life!
