| Hi Everyone! Just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself. About 2 years ago I did the Atkin's Diet, lost 70 pounds and quickly gained it back within a year of going off. I also tried many other diets such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and Kimkins, which come to find out was all a huge scam from what I read. I decided to give Atkin's a try this past week and actually lost 7 pounds but gave in to my cravings and ate Chinese Food this evening. A friend of mine referred me to South Beach and it sounds a whole lot more appealing than Atkin's. I'm really hoping to make some new friends along the way and finally make it to the end this time!!! | Welcome and best wishes on the next phase of your journey!! I will just make the observation that diets don't work, not even SB if you approach it as going "on" a diet. Going "on" a diet implies that at some point you intend to go "off" the diet and when you do that, you will eventually gain back all that you lost (and typically even more to boot!) The only thing that really works is making fundamental changes in how you eat each and every day for the rest of your life. You have to find a plan that you can work within and find a way to make it doable for the rest of your life. Those who are successful on SB on a long term basis all have that in common. Hopefully you can find a way to make SB that lifestyle eating program that allows you to meet your long term weight management goals! | |||||||||||

| I totally agree with RedRox on this. In fact, I try to refrain from calling it the "South Beach Diet" and instead try to call it the "South Beach Lifestyle". It is all about changing your habits for the rest of your life. I am also a former Atkins dieter, and you will not find me having anything negative to say about it other than it takes real dedication to stay on it for the long haul. I found the South Beach Lifestyle to something I knew I could follow, but I wasn't so sure about Atkins. Good luck to you and welcome.
