Default Hi There!

Hello, my name is Chris and I'm checking out if the South Beach lifestyle is for me. I too have tried and was successful on Atkins and Weight Watchers only to gain it all back PLUS! Its the "plus" that's the kicker. I recently quit smoking (will be 2 years this July ~YAY~) and am battling menopause (UGH!) so you can imagine my struggles with eating and weight gain! I guess I just don't know where, make that "how" to start. I have a gym membership but have not used it for months Should I read the book first or is there a quick overview of phase 1 that I could have while I read and familarize myself with the South Beach way?
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/introduction-forum-just-say-hello/5692-hi-there.html

By the way, I've never joined any type of on-line forum; I'm really intrigued by the opportunity of support and wisdom literally at my finger tips!

Thanks!
Chris

Chris, I recommend you read the book; however, the stickies at the tops of the phase one and phase two threads are helpful. Also, peruse the forums - there is a lot of good info here.

This is a great place for support. I think you will enjoy it. Don't be shy, ask questions and get an understanding of this way of eating. It will make things a lot easier.

Welcome Chris! I'm re-starting SB on Tuesday. I feel off the Beach about 3 years ago for reasons I won't go into now. But what I can tell you is that my husband and I never felt better than when we were on SB. We had tried Adkins prior to SB and felt like we were doing nothing but clogging our arteries. My father-in-law continues to be on SB and no longer has to take heart medication because of his new SB lifestyle. WW never worked for me...the whole points counting thing just became annoying to me.

Good luck to you! And having an online forum to chat with people...and getting support from others that are or have been going through the same thing is wonderful!

Thanks everyone!!
I took the plunge on Tuesday!! Today is day THREE!!
Other than a strange annoying headache, I think I'm doing well. Is the headache some form of carb withdrawal?

Possibly - it may be other foods too, depending on what you were eating before starting. If it is the absence of a particular food, then it should be gone soon.

Thank you! I bought the book and haven't put it down since. Between reading and browsing this board, I have gained so much knowledge!

Could be. You can get a decent amount of P1 carbs from the allowed dairy and beans/legumes and your minimum of 4.5 cups of veggies per day too, so make sure you utilize all your good carb sources in P1 to mitigate the effects of going too low carb. Also no need to give up caffeine/coffee if you are used to that which causes headaches for some if they go cold turkey with that too.
