Smile Have never done SB b4.

Hi everyone. I have never done South Beach before, I just read the book and feel I am ready to give it a try. I have been doing Atkins for the last month and a half, and since I don't have carb or sugar cravings, should I still do phase 1? I have already lost my water weight with the induction on Atkins, so I don't know if phase 1 would help or not. I can't wait to start having fruit again! Thanks everyone.

Although there are more carbohydrate sources in SB P1 with the inclusion of dairy (milk/yogurt), beans and a minimum of 4.5 cups of veggies, you can probably start moving into a more P2 like menu. (the food lists and meal model sticky topics in the P1 and P2 forums here will help provide good generalized meal planning guidelines and food limits where appropriate. You don't have to use the menus in the book at all if you don't want to.)

Even if you went through P1, it is usually recommended to build more slowly into a "Full" P2 menu, so maybe in addition to adding some P1 foods that weren't allowed on Atkins like the dairy and beans, you could also add a serving of fruit too for the first 5-7 days before adding a second serving of "carbs" usually alternating between fruits and starches as you increase up to 2-3 servings of each on top of the P1 foundational menus. So if you add a fruit first then the next 5-7 days you would have a fruit plus a serving of something from the Starches category and then 2 fruits and 1 starch and so on. (Good idea to pair fruits with proteins or fats or both, with usually LF cheeses or natural Peanut Butter being the most popular options to help limit the initial glycemic response cycle.)

Welcome!

There are quite a few of us starting around the same time; we can share our experiences, look for support and most of all learn from the wisdom and experiences from so many people on this forum who have "been there, done that" and are so willing to help with our journey!
