Hello all!

I am Caroline (friends call me Caz) I live in Stockport, near Manchester in England. I am 36 and weigh the heaviest I have ever weighed in my life. This is depressing.

How has this come to pass? Well, I'll be honest. I like a drink. In fact I drink more than is good for me. Don't get me wrong, I am not face down in the gutter every evening singing maudlin songs! But I can easily polish off a few glasses of wine every night in front of the tv. And that inevitably leads to unhealthy foods.

I also struggle with willpower. I can be 100% brilliant for a few days then "reward" myself by having a few days off the diet.....which can easily spread into weeks.

I don't exercise enough. I am a inherently lazy person. I do enjoy the gym, assuming I can haul my backside off the sofa and walk the 5 minutes (yes FIVE!) to the gym near my house. I used to go religiously 3 times a week at least. But the television and other such things became more important.

All things combined, and the pounds have been steadily creeping on.

So, what am I going to do about this? Am I going to sit around and feel sorry for myself, subconscously prodding my spare tire(s) and sighing? No. Nobody can sort this weight problem out but me. It is time to stop making excuses.

I will:

1. Rejoin Weightwatchers tonight - even though I will be eating beachy rather than counting points, I like the discipline of the weekly weigh in by a stranger. I think I need it. It will help keep me focused.

2. Hit the gym three times a week - Tuesday, Thursday then either Saturday or Sunday depending on weekend plans. I've already downloaded an audio book to the IPOD as an alternative to music for when I'm on the treadmill. It's something a bit different.

3. I will only drink alcohol on Friday and Saturday and I will try and stick to red wine or spirits and drink in moderation. In fact, I am seriously considering a couple of weeks off the booze altogether as a kick start.

4. I will plan, plan, and plan some more. This stops me deviating off plan. I will plan the meals for the next 7 days when I get home from work tonight and throw all none beachy foods away. I plan to follow Phase 1.5 to begin with as I have attempted the South Beach diet before and the Phase 1 is a killer!

I have 10 weeks until Christmas. I'm not a big fan of setting weight loss targets as if you miss them it can be ridiculously disappointing. However, I would *like* to lose 10 pounds before the festivities begin. A pound a week? Not unrealistic. And it would make such a difference to the way my clothes feel and my confidence.

So, sorry for rambling on! But it did feel good to get things written down in black and white

I am really looking forward to this journey and can't wait to meet and support some like minded people on these boards. We can do it.....
