Smile New at SBD

Good morning everybody my name is Belinda I am on my first week of SBD and I am feeling truly committed to this new change in my life. I have tried numerous other diets you name it I proabably have tried it I just can't seem to adapt to eating the same boring thing or taking cocktails of pills I get bored. SBD has so many choices the first two weeks are the hardest I believe and being able to link somewhere and talk to others on the same journey is pretty AWESOME!!!

I am excited and looking forward to where I will be at this summer as I have a planned trip back home to California to see my family after 15 long years I want to feel and look good too!!!

I do have a question the biggest thing I LOVE to snack on and have had to give up is chips and salsa any alternatives to this I have not found one yet. Open to any thoughts, ideas and tips I have began a journey and do not plan on turning back now "-)

I have been delaying posting because it seems the forum is not very active. Perhaps you and I can work together for encouragement. I have no idea how much weight you want to lose. I need to lose a lot of weight. I haven't started on the plan yet but have been trying to stock my kitchen and get geared up to start next week. I think there is a moderator who pops in now and then to answer your questions. I can't help with your questions but I'll try to give you support.

Yes of course I would be happy to have a buddy that would be actually cool and quite helpful! I was thinking the same thing three days ago when I first signed up to the forum and i saw some of the dates on the posts. I plan on getting on the forum a minumim of 3 days a week to start of with.

I am trying to loose about 50+ pounds but right now I am working on the first 10 pounds small realistic goals more than anything I am trying to get healthy and trying to start working out again! How much weight are you trying to loose? My tip from being new is to prepare in advance this will make a BIG difference!

I've tried SBDbefore but never gave it an honest try. Hopefully, this time will be different. If we can get through the first two weeks, then we can start adding in other foods. That should help. We'll just continue posting to this thread, if that is okay with you. I actually decided to do some reading on the forum today and it looks like the action has picked up a little. Maybe there are others starting the new year with SBD, like us. It is always more interesting when you can communicate with others going through the same circumstances as you are. This is a great, informative forum for SBD. Setting a small goal is a good idea. I will start with 10 lbs. as well. But in the long run I would like to lose at least 100. I have a fluid retention problem and just when I start losing good, the fluid backs up and really throws me for a loop. It is very discouraging. All I can do is keep trying. Good luck to you.

FWIW, any salsa without added sugars listed in the ingredients section is fine in any quantities you want to use, as it's really just a collection of allowed vegetables. The chips are obviously more problematic. Maybe some thin sliced cucumbers or you can pan fry some shredded cheese until it crispy and use those as chips. microwaved turkey pepperoni slices also make an OK chip like substitute but not sure how good they would go with salsa. In P2 you can make a small amount of chips with 100% whole wheat tortillas or use something like triscuit thin crisps perhaps.

CONGRATS!!! I started October 21st 2009, and have lost 25 pounds so far, I LOVE THIS WAY OF EATING, IT'S A MIRACULOUS!!! I have no appetite and don't think about pizza, pasta or anything like that anymore. I've cut off the appetite that literally HAUNTED my every waking moment. Clearly I was hard core addicted to bad carbs and sugar! The first 4-5 days were hard in that I had no energy felt ICKY but once you pass through that you feel amazing! The two lingering side effects are: it can kind of make you feel a little down or weird because you brain is usually buzzing on sugar and bad carbs which are 'feel good' foods, but it eventually goes away, that part taking maybe a couple months to finally go totally away. It it is countered by a sense of well being and feeling great about yourself for being so in control. The 2nd interesting side effect is that it's almost hard that you have NO appetite a lot. It makes eating become a chore and you just have to make yourself eat the meals. But i'd rather feel that then obsessing on food all the time. Good luck!!!

I think that's great but it really sounds more like you are in ketosis and going too low carb and SB is about a lot of good carbs. Even in P1 you can be close to or over 100 gms of carbs a day and in P2 over 150. not that we count carbs, but we want to make sure people don't implement this as a low carb program, but rather as a healthy eating program with good carbs, lean proteins, good fats and adequate nutrition.
