| Hi all; I can't say I just started the SBD, however I'm new to the board and posting. I started 5 weeks ago, and in my 6th week now. The first 3 weeks were great, lost 16 lbs, but have hit a brick wall. Any help would be appreciated as I'm trying not to get discouraged. I've been extremely careful in what and how much carbs I'm adding in Phase 2. I limit myself to 1 low GI fruit, either oatmeal or 1 slice whole grain bread per day, and 1 low fat, splenda sweetened yogurt. HELP!!! | ||||||||||

| Hi Canada, welcome. I'm not an expert and they will be on shortly, but I would suggest that you eliminate either the grains or the fruit for a week and see if that helps. Also, it could be just the after Phase 1, Im going to sit here at this weight for a few weeks just to frustrate you BLues. LOL.

| Canada, don't panic! The first 2 weeks of the diet are mainly water weight loss and detoxing from sugars. When you transition into Phase 2, it is VERY normal to hit a bump in your weight loss as your body transitions into eating more carbs and fruit sugars again. You sound like you are transitioning successfully by slowly adding so my advice to you is stay right where you are. You can experiment with different fruits and different carbs (at the same serving levels) to see if there are any differences in reactions to different fruits and/or carbs. For me, I found I can't eat oatmeal without getting shakey a 1/2 hour later so even though I eat whole grain/high fiber oatmeal, it still affects my blood sugar. Apples make me go up a pound for a day and bananas make me bloated and gassy and I *think* they stall me. I only found out these reactions by trial and error. BUT - Don't be alarmed at the weight loss slowdown. You can't continue to lose at such a fast clip. Once the water weight is gone, you begin losing fat and that happens slower. Most of us on Phase 2 have experienced the "wall". That lasts a few weeks and then you begin to lose steadily again but slower. If this is to be a way of eating for life, don't kick yourself for slowing down. Embrace it! 16 pounds is a great start for 3 weeks. I only lost 2 pounds on Phase 1 and now have lost a total of 12 pounds 5 months later. Most of my loss came slowly in Phase 2. For now, just enjoy the foods you are eating and definitely experiment to see what reactions you get. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/introduction-forum-just-say-hello/825-afraid-post.html You are doing great!!!!! Re-read the sticky's at the top of the Phase 2 forum that talks about transitioning into Phase 2. It might re-assure you to read that it is perfectly normal to slow down at this point. | ||||||||||

| Thanks to all for your words of wisdom. I'll try a different fruit(s) and change things up a bit. You're right about feeling good about the 16 pounds so far, so I'm back in a positive mode. Gamalah, I found that by day 4 all cravings were gone so hang in there. The savior for me was the sugar free jello and sugar free fudgesickles. Hope you carry on. | ||||||||||

| Hi all, I also only lost 2 lbs. (like Mindy)on Phase I so I don't feel like I'm the only "loser" (no pun intended). Just starting on Phase 2. I do feel that something is happening though. I don't crave sweets anymore and I'm rarely really hungary. I normally would look for lunch at 11:30 now I wait until 1 or even 2 - I know it's because I have a mid morning snack - nuts or low fat cheese and drink plenty of water. Also, I don't feel ravenous before dinner and raid everything like before so I'm happy about that. I thought nothing of eating a 1/2 large bag of chips, tortillas whatever. Thank goodness that craving has left me. I've also measured myself so I'll keep an eye on the measurements as well as the weight. Andi | ||||||||||
