Default New to this forum, but not new to the diet....

Hi, my name is Val. I am new here. The first time I went on SB was 2 years ago, and have gained back almost half of my 35 pounds I lost the first time. I have started and failed a few times since this spring. I am really having a hard time sticking to it this time around. I will be good for weeks and weeks and will only lose a few pounds. Not like the first time where after the first few weeks it was just melting off. I am having a harder time this time. I wish I had just kept it off now. Anyone else in the same boat as I? Maybe I am not drinking enough water?

Default Hang in there Val!!

Hey Val, I know what you mean, I dont' have a ton of weight to loose, but the first time I did SB I lost 4lbs in one week I went from 122-117 Then I started eating the way I was before SB because I was at 117lbs so I was like cool now I can eat what I want, WRONG!! This time I have been on Phase 1 for almost 3 weeks and I have only lost 3lbs, however I did not do it perfectly the first two weeks I thought it was ok to have s/f f/f instant pudding but I guess it's not, I also ate to many nuts a couple days in a row. That's why i decided to stay on Phase 1 for another two weeks.

I went on vacation in February to beautiful Hawaii for 9 days when I left I was 120 when I got back 9 days later I was 126. Well I ate whatever I wanted while I was there meaning Hagen Daas icecream every night for 9days not just a small portion either, well no wonder I gained 6lbs duh!! I even did 1 hour of cardio every morning thinking that would offset calories well it doesn't.

Working out helps you loose weight ONLY if you are eating lower calories that what you burn. That's the only way you can loose weight.

The thing with SB don't think of it as a diet, think of it as a lifestyle. It's not something you can do for a couple weeks and then go back to eating the way you used too you have to stick to it forever or else you will gain back the weight no matter how much you workout.

Default Ty Brownie....

I couldn't agree with you more. Actually if you can believe this, my Doc was concerned I was losing too much weight, lol. Never has a Doctor told me that one before!

This time it is different. I didn't even have to excercise or anything the first time. This time I think I am gonna have to, ugh! I think I drink too much coffee and not enough water, pluse I think I eat too many nuts also. I start out good at the start of the day, and stress and other factors get in the way and I seem to either gain a few on the weekends or remain the same. It is like my weight it just stuck there. I remember eating a lot before and still lost weight. Also when I could have wheat bread, I ate it too much. I would rather have wheat toast or waffles for breakfast then eggs. Ugh, I got so sick of eggs.

Anyways thank you so much for your response. I am gonna try and be strict and see what happens. Good luck to you too.

Default Val:

Stay away from the nuts, if that is something you overeat then don't have them for a snack at least until you can control your portion and have only 15 a day.

Nuts are good for us, but to much of anything will cause weight gain even if it is a healthy food.

Try to eat lots of vegetables too, that will keep you regular and yes up your water intake that helps the body to get rid of all those toxins it's been holding onto for so long!!

One thing that helps me alot is to remember I didn't gain the weight over night and im not gonna loose it over night either this stuff takes time to get off. I also tell myself if I keep eating this way eventually I will loose the weight, nothing tastes better than looking good feals!!

Hang in there and keep up the good work!!

Welcome, Val.

I also agree with what Brownie says.

Look around at recipes. There's alot you can do with ricotta or cottage.

If something leads to my overeating, I've learned I must find some way to keep to portions (like pre-measure out individual portions & ask someone to hide the rest). Or don't bring it home anymore. I just didn't bring bread home for awhile. Sometimes, later, I can handle a food without overeating it. I can often limit peanut butter better than nuts. Or seeds can make good dessert-like things.

In the beginning, when I was anxious & felt the need to eat, I ate as many veggies as I wanted, all day long. I started to like them, raw or cooked, ready to grab.

Plenty of water really does help me. Try gradually cutting down on the coffee.

I don't like exercise, but it REALLY helps me to deal with stress better and to not want to overeat as much. EVERY body needs to exercise to be well. Just get yourself to do something regularly & it'll get easier.

I've lost 40 pounds, by over and over, just persistently getting back on course after my many falls. Once I fell off 7 months, but I got back on. All along the way, I thought it was stuck & would never go down. But, with persistence, it has gone down to my goal weight.

I drink two cups of coffee in the morning and sometimes I have 2 diet cokes throughout the day, I also drink tons of water is this ok? Or could this possibly be why im only loosing 1lb a week on Phase 1?

Brownie,

The SBD experts still recommend no more than 1-2 cups caffeine per day.

Caffeine does have an effect of stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin, which makes the blood sugar less stable throughout the day.

I don't have any cravings though so isn't it ok to drink it as long as it doesn't cause you to crave junk?

That's just their recommendation, but you can do whatever you like! That freedom is one of the things I love about SBD.

I don't know if it's been shown scientifically, but sometimes I pick up an implication from the experts that unstable blood sugar levels could lead to less weight loss. Maybe for the body's equilibrium, when blood sugar goes too low the body responds by holding on to fat. A fight or flight response maybe??

I see what causes your blood sugar to go low? Not eating? I am happy I cna tell im loosing but im not loosing pounds off the scale and this is my 3rd week on Phase 1 I am not weighing again until Saturday so maybe i'll be a few pounds lighter by then.

Until then im just so glad that my sugar bug is gone, i know i'll definately loose weight sense im not pigging out on cookies and icecream!!
