Went to the doctor yesterday and weighed :speechless: the scale tipped at 296--HELP! I have never liked the word "fat" and prefer the word "fluffy"--but I had noticed my work scrubs getting a little tight, and I REFUSE to go up a size. We reevaluated the progress of getting approved for bypass surgery, with the goal of the surgery being in February. Part of the insurance deal is to have 6 months of a weight loss program and behavior modification plan. Well, I got up this morning a little depressed and discouraged, but put on a happy face and walked a total of 4 blocks and my back, shoulders and legs ached. BUT--IT WAS A START--I need to get another pedometer and will start marking off the steps. K at work wants us to join Curves, but I prefer walking and needless to say prefer saving the money. My goal for today is to complete my bible study and reading--drink at least 2 bottles of water and stick to the plan! I know I can do this, and it will take finding the inner strength to succeed despite all the odds..."I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"

Thumbs up

Hello! :Welcome: Welcome to the journals. I'm so glad that you started one!

Four blocks is an awesome start. And it will get easier as you progress. Soreness and perhaps a little pain is expected at first, but I'd be leary of feelings of true pain. Most days I do push through it, but I'd hate to tell someone else to try to do that and it really be something serious. So, always be aware and take true pain seriously. How often do you see your doctor during this journey?

I use to hate exercise, but now I walk almost everyday. And I prefer exercising outside and saving money that would be spent at a gym, too. Will K walk with you sometimes? It's good to have a buddy to exercise with. It makes the time go by faster and it's more enjoyable.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"

I love that! You keep reminding yourself of that.

I have this printed on a card that I keep by my computer.

Dear God,
I am grateful for Your gift of unlimited, unconditional love. Your love is with me and within me, supporting and sustaining me in every moment.

That has gotten me through a lot of hard times in my life.

I hope your first day goes well.

Hi :Welcome:
Getting started is the hardest part, but you can do it! I will pray for you as you start this journey. I agree with french, I bet you won't need surgery if you just stick to the plan. I've found South Beach to be very effective at managing cravings, and I've never felt hungry on the program. You can do it!! :sun:

I too believe if you can do this diet then you won't need the surgery. My dr prescribed southbeach to me. He said that before he will even discuss with patients having the surgery they must learn to eat on the beach. I didn't want the surgery in the first place but I think he thought I did. I think its too much of a risk for me to take voluntarilly. Plus I've heard too many stories of people having long term side effects from it. Loosing weight the old fashion way is still the best.

Good luck to you!

I wouldnt do bypass but my dr had me check into lapband which wasnt nearly as scary. I got some paperwork and realized this was still quite intensive.

That very day one month ago & I started SB, . Last weekend they had the following report of 40% having complications within 6 months. Personally I was focused on those who never survived the surgery.

I dont fault those who go surgery and cant swear I will never do it, but it was scary enough for me to get a full commitment to the healthy way. It sounds like you are on the right track grandmarnc !!
