Today is 13! Temptation was staring me in the face all day! First The docs brought in some doughnuts. At lunch we had a presentation from a drup rep that brought blizzards for everyone. Then tonight a patient's family brought us some cheesecake from UGHH.... THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY!!!! I've never been to the cheesecake factory, but I have heard the rumors of them having the best cheesecake ever. One of the nurses told me you can't pass up the cheesecake, restart again tomorrow. I said "ARE YOU KIDDING ME, i'M ON DAY 13!" I really don't think she could comprehend the significance of that phrase, even though she knows I'm on southbeach and phase 1 ends tomorrow for me. I thought "no way was I going to cheat and have that 500 calorie slice of cheesecake", so I ate my mozzarella salad I saved over from lunch. Eventhough I passed up the cheesecake, I still wanted it! Will there ever come a time that I don't want these things? I really don't know for me if that will happen, if it did I probally would not be doing this a second time.

I am so impressed you could pass up all of the temptations from the day. Not only did you do it once you did it three different times. That type of focus will get you to your goal.

As far as being able to never want those types of treats I am not sure I will ever be able to pass up sweets forever either. I just figure I have to make it very special when I do decide to have a treat and that I cannot have more than just a little bit and finally only after I have met my goal.

I am trying to stay focused and just take it one moment at a time.

Red face Temptations?

I hear you on being tempted by food at work... I do fine if I control my surroundings, but, alas, I can't (nor would I want to) be isolated in my house all day. A few days ago, someone brought in homemade rum cake and put it on my computer. I gave it away. Two days later, someone left a fresh scone at my work spot. I gave it away, too. When I am at home, I don't think about these foods quite so badly (though it is really hard) but when it is placed under your nose, it is so hard to resist. You just have to remember, what is a few minutes of joy when it adds pounds to your waist? Plus, it makes you feel bad. Have courage and keep it up! This is the first time in my life that I have been serious about giving up those wonderful treats. I am pretty proud of myself so far! I just hope that I can keep it up.

Red face Temptations?

Oh, yeah, another thing. It is so easy to get into the mentality of "I can have this on special days," and before you know it, every day is a special day!

Thanks jar and georgia peach. I am very proud of myself I have made it to the last day of phase 1 and not one slip. GP, I agree on what you said about special days . I plan on being very deligent over the next several weeks with the holidays being here soon. I think if I can get through them without a major catastophe I can get through just about any circumstance. When I was on it before, even before my accident I noticed I was making quite a few of allowances and the cravings were winning me over. I really never thought about it til yesterday when there were tons of goodies around. I am a big emotional eater so when things get stressful I tend to over eat and eat the wrong kinds of foods.
So today is day 14 and eventhough tomorrow I can start phase 2 I am going to go in slowly. I was thinking of starting with just adding a fruit, I know berries are probally the best thing to start with but being november in pennsylvania I'm not sure I can find fresh ones. What would be a good alternative or should I just try buying some frozen fruit? I will make sure there is no sugar added to them. I don't plan on adding any grains(rice, bread) for a few weeks.

I added an apple and dipped it in Natural Peanut Butter. It is wonderfull. In fact, that is still what save as a snack and it is like eating desert. The apples are still pretty good also. As far as grains go. I have found I have to be careful with them. I do not eat them in the morning because they have a tendency to make me crave more bread throughout the day.

Ooh.. Apples with peanut butter that sounds good. Do you use a specific brand? What should I be looking at when I read the nutrtional label, such as carbs, fat wise?

The ingredients I looked for were peanuts & salt added only (all natural). There should be no sugar added. As far as low fat etc. I did not buy that type I only looked for all natural. You have to be careful not to use too much (2 tbs. max.). But it is wonderful. Good luck.

Today is day 15! Yeah I have made it to phase 2 and the scale finally dropped 2 more pounds. It was staying stuck exactly on a number for the last five days that I thought the dang thing was broken. So a lost of 11.6 lbs for phase 1 is not too bad.
Now what am i going to change today I was reading my sb supercharged book on phase 2 and he suggests one piece of fruit for the first day and one whole grain such as bread. I think I will start with just one piece of fruit today and I will have either with lunch or late afternoon snack. I'm going to forgo the bread or grain for a couple of days.

I find that interesting not having read SBD-SC. His earlier transition plans just had one or the other, not both a fruit and a starch. And from a personal standpoint based on my own observations and beliefs, I would not add in any flour based whole grains for the first few weeks at least. The "Starches" category also includes starchy veggies like sweet potato and winter squashes and plenty of grains much closer to their "whole" nature like quinoa, barley, steel cut oats, brown rice and so forth. The more you need to chew, the slower they will digest as well. I know it is so common and easy to think of "whole grains" as either ww (whole wheat) bread or ww pasta, but those are some of the last things I would add back in during the transition process. Even ww flour is still a fairly highly processed form of grain and will have a higher GI than whole grains closer to their whole origins.
