Default Janes journal

Hello everyone my name is jane and I'm new to the forum. I live in pa and me and my husband have a small horse breeding farm . We have three grown daughters 24,21,19.
I did south beach before and had great success with it and lost over 75 lbs. I did a 5k in june 2007 and I was just starting to prepare for my first 10k. I got off track when a truck rolled into my car last october when I was coming out of the hospital parking lot where I work. The car was totaled and I ended being in the hospital with a broken arm, clavicle, pelvis and ruptured appendix and spleen. I was in the hospital for almost 6 weeks and then recovery for 6 months at home with sweet dh doing all of the cooking. I ended up gaining 65 back. I've tried ww in the meantime and slim fast but more weight just came piling back. A friend at the hospital who is a doc told me to try south beach again since it is very healthy and the success I've had with it.

Today is day 4 for me and the cravings seem worse than the first time but determined to continue not only for the weight loss and good health but becasue south beach living made me feel so good about myself. I'm down 6.5 lbs so far and plan on reaching my goal this time. I've did not have the support of a forum last time and I think it will make a big difference.

Welcome Jane! Wow...glad to hear your all healed up and back at it. This forum helped me tons when I was struggling with my weight...I posted my journal every day and sometimes even when no one else was ever on the board...I was still posting...I started blogging and have not posted in my journal since, but I've been able to stay on top of things just the same. When you need accountability and support, there's not better place to be than right here with people in the same boat right?....or shall I say on the same beach...hehe...if you need anything, we're here for ya...keep up the good work, you'll get through this first week and those cravings will be gone...stick to it, it will get better...I promise!

Thanks goldie the welcome goldie.
Today is day 7 for me and actually I am feeling pretty good now. The cravings hit occassionally but I feel in so much better control now. I'm down 9lbs Yipee!!! I know it's just water weight this week and next but gives me the motivation I needed to come back. I haven't started exercising but plan on dusting off the elliptical and the treadmill today. Tonight will be a test though, today is dd#2 21st birthday and we are going to texas roadhouse. I cannot have any rolls and that will be a test. I plan on just going for the chicken breast salad, I might go for the chili but afraid the cravings might come back.

Thanks goldie but I have a lot to lose so it comes out faster in the beginning. I plan to keep this up and really stay with it this time. I bought an elliptical when I was on south beach before and lost alot of weight. I really got into shape fast. I use my treadmill on off days, I just try to make this interesting. There is a website called www.mapmywalk.com that you can have a virtual walk with an e-trainer,treadmill or walking in your neighborhood. It's pretty cool. Try it out if your ever get bored with your walk.

Last night took my daughter out for her birthday. I did really well and feel great about it. They are my nsv's today. I kept the rolls on the opposite of the table and did not even crave one. I did have some peanuts and counted out just 10 and put the bucket back with the rolls. If they would have been in front of me I probally unthinking would have kept popping them in my mouth. I did have a cup of chili with cheddar cheese(not sure how light it was) but it's loaded with beans so I felt it was sb worthy. I got the steak salad, holding the fries and croutons, kept half the steak for lunch today. I got the light dressing and just had them put it on the side and used very little. I know these are small feats but they are huge to me because even when I was on south beach before I had tio endulge. I also turned down the chocolate birthday cake dh got for dd. I felt a little bad but she understood why I needed to do this for me. The scale is a couple lbs up but I am not getting upset over it because I feel I stayed pretty well on the plan. I'm just starting week 2 of phase one today and feel I'm ready to do south beach right this time. I bought myself some new workout clothes and some new training shoes so off to my walk I go.

Nice job!! Always celebrate your successes!!

Weight could be anything really. Daily fluctuations are pretty natural. I'd guess more salt in their foods than what you normally eat when you prepare it yourself and so some temporary water retention from that. Drink more water today than normal!

And thanks for the origin of your screen name. Thought it might have something to do with paint horses, but could have been an artist too I suppose!

Keep on movin' forward!!

thanks for all the support, it really does help one move forward here much easier.
This weekend I've eaten out much too much. Friday we went out with friends and saturday we went out with dd#1 and met the new boyfriend. She is 24 and lives in columbus about 3 hours away and we usually don't get to meet her bf's but since they were headed this way we went out to dinner. I did stay on plan and was so tempted to have a drink but refrained. I'm not much of a beer or wine drinker but love a good margarita when I have that option. My weight has been fluctualting on the scale but so far it's 8lbs down. I did have sone chili last night and think that probally had too mcuh sodium in it so I'm drinking the water today. Today I actually got on my elliptical today and it was rough. I was only able to do 20 min but I worked out with my 5 lb hand weights as well. One step at a time I guess.

Today is day 12 for me and so far so good. I had a long day at work but I had planned well and I was not hungry at all. I am feeling pretty good too not as sluggish. I came home from work today and dh was supposed to make hamburgers and I come home to take out from a local pizza place. My dh is usually very supportive but I guess he thought it would be easier. He knows I was a little ticked off but I've come too far to mess it up now. I ended up making an omelette with fresh veggies and my laughing cow cheese with 2 slices of turkey bacon. I felt good I stayed on plan and ready to muster day 13, tomorrow I make dinner!

Default good for you!

I would have been SO SO tempted to eat pizza. I applaud you --- you put yourself first and made yourself an omelette (sounds tasty!)

thank goodness for eggs--they give us a lot of options.
