Default Angie's Journey

Today is day 1 for me. I have done this before with success after having my second child 2 1/2 years ago. The weight has slowly crept back up on me like it does for everyone. I have tried a few other things since, but I haven't had success like with SB. Sugar is my devil and what makes me gain weight.

I am a stay at home mom and I also run my own in home daycare. I hate for the kids to waste food, so sometimes I just finish off their plates plus eat my own!!

I am starting this journey to live a healthier life. I also plan to get pregnant again very soon, but I refuse to with this extra weight! I will not even think about it until I am 135 lbs. You ladies know how hard it is to lose baby weight then another 15 lbs on top of it, yikes!! So, if I start where I want, I will start out healthy and eat good things for me and my baby which will lead to a healthy pregnancy.

So, thats a little of my story. I am excited and scared!! But I know I WILL do it!!

Welcome to starting your journal and I wish you success with your new way of life. You are my hero! I think running a daycare center is tough work. I think it's very smart for you to lose the weight before thinking about having a child. South beach will give you and the soon to be baby a good start. I'm glad to see you joined our challenge.

Default Setback

Well, I think I tried to do too much too soon. I tried to start SB last Weds AND tried to start working out again. It went well for like 1 day, then I started eating badly but continued to work out. I have to weigh in tomorrow for the challenge and I know I am going to have a gain! Yikes! With Thanksgiving Thursday I am just setting myself up for failure again this week. I know I CAN do this, I have done it before. I think I just tried too much at once. Now that I look forward to running on the treadmill I am ready to start SB. I think I should wait until Friday though. I guess end this horrible eating lifestyle with a bang!

Running my daycare is challenging. 2 of the 5 kids are my own. One is in Kindergarten this year. The hard part is the want, well it's not really a want, it is a habit of grazing over their food. I have all the right foods here, my mind is just not in it.

So, this is my 2nd week check-in, although it isn't my 2nd week of SB. Count me in on Friday. I will apologize in advance for the gain in the challenge post that I will post tomorrow. But, I refuse to not weigh in, I need to see what I have done to myself over the week, you know?

Don't apologize for the gain. The challenge is to motivate you not to chatise you. It is for support when the week just does not go as planned. Post tomorrow it may not be as bad as it seems. Taking care of a daycare is hardwork, take this wol one day, one bite at a time.

Default New Beginning!!

Well I am ready for the week and super excited!! Everything is planned and prepped for each and every day. Should be no excuses. My plan is to hit the treadmill for a goal of 45 minutes with a 30 minute minimum every other day at least!!

I did a lot of web surfing over the weekend and was reading up on the Birth Control pill that I take. I found out it is linked to many deaths and a whole lot of side effects. I have experienced a lot of these effects but never linked them. It ranges from significant weight gain, a huge appetite, migraines, depression, low sex drive, lumps/cysts in breasts and the list goes on!! I have been depressed/crazy for years!! I always just thought it was my kids! So, anyways, I am wanting to get pregnant as soon as I lose the weight. So I decided to not refill this pack and see how I feel! Plus I hear you should be off BC a few months before conceiving!! This will work out perfect.

Mark my words SBDBB I WILL be trying to conceive this baby starting January 1st because I will be at my goal weight!!

It sounds like you are all ready to go, and the reward a baby for 2009. It sounds like a good plan.
Birth control pills do have some horrible side effects not to mention blood clots, strokes ect. I'm so glad you will be going off them soon. I really as a health professional don't like them, I used them when I was younger but i ended up getting pregnant anyways. I remember a few years ago we had a young 19 year old girl admitted with shortness of breath, her mom was with her when she gave her health history to the md and nurse so we never knew she was on the pill and a smoker. I guess she did not want her mom to know though she was an adult. Later that day when the transporter was waiting to take her for a test she was found dead in the bathroom due to a pulmonary embolism.(blood clot in the lung).

Default Funny Thing

So, I was browsing through the board and came across some of my old posts. What is the funniest part is that I weigh exactly the same as I did May of 2006-July of 2006. I posted randomly and my starting weight was 157 (more than this time, but I had just had a baby). My last post said I weighed 151. Last Weds I was at 152.2. Just funny how I have went up and down from 140-152 but never more or less during the last 2 1/2 years. I am going to break 140 this time though, that's a promise!!

You can do it with those two things going for yourself.

Be kind to yourself. I have four kids and two step sons. I have KNOW lots of the challenges you face. My teen girls come home with friends and order pizzas. My elementary school boys need rice krispie treats or cupcakes for school. The list goes on and on.

But it is also motivation -- with so many other little souls to care about, the south beach diet is something I can do for myself! i hope you feel the same way. As I'm sure you remember...the toughest part is the first two weeks. After that there is some momentum and most usually some big result to keep you motivated.

This board is such a big help too. I'm recently grateful for the tip that unsweetened cocoa powder (i splurge on the good kind--not hersheys) and a packet of splenda with some hot skim milk is WAY better than diet swiss miss for quashing the chocolate craving. I even add a pump of sugar free carmel sometimes.

My kids love lots of south beach things--they love shrimp, they love edamame, they love cheese slices, they love turkey sausage, and about five of the six will eat poached or scrambled eggs---just have to search for common ground. Oh, they all love steamed cauliflower and broccoli too.:Hug2::Hug2::Hug2:

Default Dreaded Day 3

Well, here I am with 2 full days under my belt going into day 3. Day 3 has proven to be the hardest day for me by far everytime I try to do this diet. I don't know if it is in my head or it is just that the lack of sugar is hitting me.

I have already had to fight off urges of taking a bite of a chocolate donut and pouring myself a bowl of lucky charms. So, I made myself some turkey bacon and a few strips of celery with laughing cow cheese wedge. Yum.

I am browsing cookie recipes to make for my family and for my daughters school. I have come across some and I don't know if I can do it. Not on day 3!!

I weighed in today for the challenge and I am down 5!! I feel great even though I am having some minor cravings.
