well, i just started SB yesterday and so far it looks good. i've never been on a "diet" before and i don't really "believe" in them. however, this seems pretty logical. plus, it looks like the way i want to eat, but don't tend to eat.

i've noticed that eating breakfast so early (around 6:30 in the morning) really kick-starts my metabolism because i've been really hungry all day. i have some stuff to munch on later this afternoon, though, so i'm all set.

today, i'm planning on grabbing some non-dairy cream cheese, hummus, nuts, and edamame. yummy!

oh, and i'm starting from 163lbs, but i haven't measured myself yet.

Default day #1

breakfast
veggie cups with soy bacon and spinach (these were GROSS. i actually made a bunch ahead of time and threw them all out. never again.)

snack
ham roll-ups with alfalfa sprouts, a bit of soy cheese, red pepper, and lettuce (these are nice and will definitely be a staple for me.)
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/journal-your-way-thin/264-grrrlennyls-journal.html

lunch
chopped salad with cucumbers, broccoli, red pepper, chicken, alfalfa sprouts, and a tiny bit of olive oil and lemon (fabulous! i actually couldn't finish the whole thing and had the bit that was left over before i ate dinner.)

snack
some cucumber and celery (can't go wrong with veggies. yummy!)

dinner
chicken with taco seasoning and red pepper, avocado with lime and salsa, with lettuce leaves as tortillas (not bad. i hadn't realized that i could eat black beans in phase I. this meal would have been perfect with a bit of black beans.)

dessert
a little bit of sunflower seeds (we didn't have anything sweet to eat because i grabbed the sugar-filled jello, so i just munched on some seeds.)

beverages
i drank water during the day at work (LOTS of water) and had a cup of herbal tea.
at home, i had more water, plus water with some lemon, and a cup of herbal tea.

not bad at all. i was definitely hungry at the end of the day and craving something sweet, though. hopefully, i'll be able to grab a dessert-type item tomorrow.

however, that calorie count bothers me. hopefully, it will be higher for the rest of the week. also, i really need to bring up that fiber number.

Default day #2

breakfast
ham and red pepper omelette (wonderful! a great, easy way to start the day and MUCH better than the dreaded veggie cups from day 1.)
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/showthread.php?t=264

snack
2 ham rollups with alfalfa, a bit of soy cheese, and red pepper (delicious, but i removed the lettuce leaves because they were soggy.)

lunch
chicken and avocado mixed with lime juice and salsa and eated on lettuce leaves (yummy! i adore avocado, so this was a nice cold lunch for me. i'd probably add a bit of shredded soy cheese to this in the future.)

snack
hardboiled egg, celery, and cucumber

dinner
diced chicken with 2 slices of soy cheese and salsa on baby spinach (yummy! i heated the cheese, salsa, and chicken in the microwave and it was a really filling meal.)

dessert
sugar-free jello cup in strawberry-kiwi (i haven't had jello in forever and this was GREAT!)

snack
~20 spanish peanuts (because i was still hungry later that night)

dessert
tofutti fudge bar thingy (i was craving something sweet, so i had one of these. only 30 calories, so even with the jello, i was still under my 75 calorie limit.)

was hungry all day at work, which was odd. i'm not sure if it is because i'm not getting enough fat or if it has more to do with work being very, very slow today.

much better calorie-wise. now, i just need to get my fiber up a bit.

I'm hungry just looking at your menu's, YUM! Does the soy cheese have fat in it? Maybe you aren't getting enough fat to keep you satiated. I am not hungry all day like you described, but I do get hungry when it's time for my snack or next meal. I really think it's Pavlovian with me!

You are doing really great!!!

Time for my mid-day snack - 2 turkey slices, wrapped around 1 oz 2% cheddar and a romaine leaf wrapped around that. YUM!

eek! i think that a slice of soy cheese (i've been doing half-slices, though.) have 5g of fat. is that too much! i hadn't even though to check on that. i haven't eaten cheese in a long time, so i'm not sure how that compares.

however, now that i'm thinking of it, i may not be getting enough fat. i had one slice of low-fat ham this morning in my omelette, with 1.5 eggs. then again, i did have chicken breast and avocado for lunch. hmmm...i just ate a hard-boiled egg, so hopefully that will help. i'm just going to keep drinking flavored tea until i get home and make dinner.

5 grams of fat in the soy cheese is low! it's the sat fat you want to keep to 6 grams or less. the sat fat if the cheese has any will only be a portion of the total fat so you are well within guidelines!

Sometimes we think we are hungry when our bodies actually want water. I am a bad one for that. And lately I haven't been drinking enough water. Shame on me! So maybe up your water intake and see if that quells the hunger.

Hunger pangs can also be a part of withdrawl from sugars/carbs you have been used to eating. That should go away soon.

You are doing great!!!

awesome. i didn't feel that hungry yesterday...well, at least not until after dinner. luckily, i drink tons of water while i'm at work, so i'm just going to chalk this up to carb withdrawal.

thanks a lot!

Default day #3

breakfast
ham and turkey omelette (i wish i would have tossed some spinach in this, but i was in a bit of a rush.)

snack
ham roll-ups with soy cream cheese and alfalfa sprouts (this is SO much more satisfying with the soy cream cheese on it. it was delicious! and filling! woo hoo!)

lunch
chicken and shredded soy cheese on baby spinach (i heated the cheese and chicken up a bit and it was fabulous. also, i ate a lot more slowly than normal because i put a piece of chicken on each little spinach leaf like a baby taco. woo hoo!)
jello cup (can't go wrong with jello.)

snack
hummus with celery, cucumbers, peapods (nice, but this made me miss pitas. hehe...i'm not sure i like raw peapods all that much, so i'll probably just bring a bunch of celery with me tomorrow.)

dinner
chicken "tacos" with baby spinach, black beans, black lentils, soy cheese, salsa, and lime (woo hoo! another great meal that i was forced to eat slowly. great stuff.)

dessert
bean brownies with cream cheese, whip cream, and splenda frosting (i really don't like the taste that splenda leave in my mouth. it's almost...i don't know. alcohol-y? also, i screwed up and ate waaaay too much of the brownie thing, so i'm over my dessert allowance by a lot. i had 149 calories of sweet stuff and should have only had 75. i was "under" for the past two days, though, so i'm not too update about it.)
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/showthread.php?t=264

snack
10 cashews (i just grabbed these when i saw them. i didn't even really want anything.)

beverages
i actually drank a (small) glass of water with lemon this morning with my breakfast. woo hoo!
lots of water at work, of course. probably at least 36oz.
i had a cup of "decaf" vanilla nut creme tea from stash in the afternoon, mostly because i was bored.
drank a big glass of water at home with some lemon in it.

10% / 15g sat.
15% / 64g carbs
41% / 134g protein

thoughts...
i need to pay more attention to when i'm not hungry. after i finished my chicken/cheese/spinach lunch, i wasn't hungry, but i opened up my jello before i realized that. i ended up eating the jello slowly, but i probably could have saved it for later in the day and been fine.
also, i felt the need to finish all of my veggies even though i wasn't hungry. more veggies = good, i know, but i need to eat more slowly and not feel like i need to eat everything i bring with me to work.
i need to make sure that i'm actually hungry when i eat. i grabbed those cashews for no reason at all, which is a waste. i'd rather really enjoy my food.
my carbs were high today, but that was mostly because of the beans and lentils. i'll need to watch my portions on those in the future.

haha! i LOVE to eat, but i'm not a huge fan of cooking. i was actually on a bit of a cooking hiatus for a few weeks, so my gf and i were eating out a lot and making easy (crappy) stuff.

i'm actually enjoying cooking now. i had tentatively sketched out a (rather boring) meal plan for the week, but not i'm just sort of winging it and it's working out nicely. i think i may make chicken tacos again tonight, though, because they were yummy the other day. i just need to grab a pepper at the store.
