| I am starting this new journal today...haven't picked a name for it yet... I will be beginning Phase I tomorrow, I spent most of the day shopping for the things I will need for home and work... A little bit about me, I am thirty something...teacher...married...no kids...but 2 lovely pugs...I have been struggling with my weight now for close to 14 years...it began with a 25lb gain ... then it went to about 45lbs, hitting 65lbs, 82lbs making 222 my highest weight ever in 2001........well...3 years ago I gained another 20lbs making 242 my highest weight...and this is where I am still stuck today... All of these years I have tried many different plans...Diet Pep, other over the counter diet pills, Phentarmine, counting calories, exercise, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Carb Addicts, Seattle Sutton, Slim Fast, Jenny Craig, the "No Diet" approach, and South Beach... ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/journal-your-way-thin/360-no-name-journal.html Many times I have managed to lose up to 25lbs...one year even getting down to 198...the lowest weight I had been in about 9 years at that time....... Some of my problems are: poor eating habits...my addiction to sugar and anything sweet...the lack of motivation...lack of time...depression...dealing with my DH's depression...and cravings...I am somewhat of an emotional eater...I really don't love to workout but I can get myself to walk usually...plus I live in a city where their is great food everywhere...and...my kitchen is currently being rehabbed...so...besides a microwave and toaster oven...I do not have much to cook with right now... I am an expert at dieting (tried all the plans...read all the books and magazines...visited all the websites...etc)...so...this time around I am going to consider it more of a new way of eating...a health plan...a "live it"...not a diet...diets as we know are temporary... I have tried SBD twice before...both times staying on plan for close to 3 months and feeling great!...It's been the easiest plan for me and I feel like I am not that deprived...I also have the most energy and just feel great...so I am going with that and hopefully this time I can stick with it!...I realize I will have to give up a few things...maybe just save them for my birthday or something...and I also realize I will have to incorporate more exercise into my days...but I need to do it to be a happier and healthier me!... | :Welcome: back Whatsername! Maybe this will be the time you stay on the beach for good! I also feel like I'm not deprived on this diet. For me it's all about counting my calories. That helps me not to overeat. As long as I have really good food choices, which I do! The plan says you don't have to count calories so I'm not saying you should, but for me I wouldn't know how much I am eating otherwise! LOL! Good luck and hope to hear more about your progress! | ||||||||||

| Thanks Mindy... One of the reasons I enjoy SBD is because I do NOT have to count calories...but...I have a habit of counting them up in my head...regardless...I also have a great book that I carry in my purse...I got it at www.calorieking.com ... it is a great site for all that is calories... ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/showthread.php?t=360 WELL...Day 1 has gone well :joy: I had a veggie omelet for breakfast and lunch (it was big)...for snacks I had sf jello...a 1/4 c of mixed nuts...some cheese cubes...and for dinner I had a great salad filled with veggies......some cheese...and shredded chicken...I picked up some lite Ranch dressing to go with it...I have had a good amount of water...and...was able to pass up some chocolate today...no problem... I have not had any headaches or other sugar withdrawal problems...yet...(like I have had in the past)...so hopefully I can go without it this time... | I had another good day...I think I may have had a bit too much fat since I know SBD focuses more on low fat...but...I stayed true to the plan... B=McD's sausage mcmuffin...minus the muffin (no cheese)...coffee...L=small bowl of lentil soup (I tossed all the carrots)...snacks...1/4 c of mixed nuts...string cheese...mini babybel...D=1/3 of some grilled chicken parmesan (minus the pasta)...1/2 of a cheesesteak salad filled with veggies...yum...it came with bleu cheese dressing but it tasted sweet so I barely had any of it... My dinner was rather pricey...but...I will be able to have it for lunch and dinner again tomorrow so I guess it was a bargain........ For those of you checking out my journal...I eat out a lot (kitchen is not done...work too much...etc)..so I have to find decent meals that are SBD like to fit into the program...so far so good... NO cravings...sugar withdrawal...or headaches so far.........I am pretty happy about that.....usually I suffer for about 3 days... WE Last edited by whatsername; 03-21-2006 at 08:19 PM. | |||||||||||

| For eating out you did well. Be weary of the Mickey D breakfast sausages though. Not only are they real high in sat fat but they also contain sugar! But overall you are sticking to the plan and know that you need to watch the fats more! In phase one you will still detox from sugars this way, but when you hit phase 2, you'll need to make really good decisions on where your grains are coming from and limiting your fats! Keep up the good work! | ||||||||||

| OH NO... Day 3...not so good! I made the mistake of stepping on the scale this a.m....no loss...so...that bummed me out... I had to leave work early to see a "new" doctor today...I spoke to her about my concerns with my weight and how I have a lot of trouble losing more then 20lbs...etc...we talked about my family history...etc...she decided to take blood and run some test...I go back in two weeks... Well they took a lot...more then they would even if you donate...I did not feel so good afterwards and they brought me cookies to eat...ack...poor excuse to fall prey to sugar...but...I ate them...then of course later I had a chocolate bar...It's my fault...I chose to eat it...but I will tell you my DH was making me crazy mad today with his man fits.........he was in such a foul mood...its not what I look forward to coming home too... ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/showthread.php?t=360 The rest of the day went well...I need to put this past me and go on with the plan... Thanks for stopping by Mindy...Phase 2 is when I freak out a bit...I do tend to count calories more religiously and I only add in one off limit phase I food a day...like 1 fruit...or 1 whole grain...that's it...eeek!... | I can totally understand feeling woozy after giving blood. That happens to me. I've passed out before. Blood sugar and blood pressure just drop to the floor. But don't beat yourself up over that. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on track. You can do this!! I think your tactic is a good one going into Phase 2. You are supposed to start slowly so right on, sistah!! Keep up the hard work, you'll get on track, I know it! | ||||||||||

| Day 4...almost over... I did well... B=was a McD's steak bagel...without the bagel...coffee...Snacks=2 pieces of cheese...some sf pudding and sf jello.........I was so busy today at work...and...I did not get hungry so lunch passed me up...D=sausage and peppers...and I had some mixed nuts...I have a cup of lentil soup waiting for me...but that is about it... My calories are not very high for today...only about 1000...so I think I am going to have that soup...get up to about 1150 for the day... Mindy...I checked the online nutritional information at McD's and calorieking...and neither site lists any sugar in the McD's sausage...or the steak...???...I hope they are not lying about this one!...
