Default Andy's Journal

Hi All -

I figured I'd start a journal, perhaps others reading this can help me along the way. A bit of info about me. I did the south beach diet a few years ago with great success. I dropped about 40 lbs over a few months and it was great. It wasn't really that hard to follow.

But a few years have passed, and I gained it all back...and more. I had such an easy time with the diet the first time around that I've since used it as an excuse: "I'll just go back on south beach and lose it with ease." Well, I've tried a few times, but it seems much harder now.

A few years back I was in grad school and somehow ended up at 235lbs. Competing in a number of sports, I've hovered around "an athletic" 195 - 200 lbs since early high school and throughout undergrad. Once grad school came around I stopped exercising and started sitting around all day. By the end of my first year of grad school (age 22/23) I found myself around 235. I committed to exercising daily and doing south beach and by the end of that summer, I was back at 195 and had lost 40 lbs. It really wasn't too hard in retrospect.

I kept it off for another year, but then I graduated and got a job. I'm a consultant and travel for work monday - thursday. Eating well on the road is tough. Very tough. Snacking is impossible. Exercising dropped to non-existent. My day consisted of getting to work early, staying late, and sitting in a chair in between. I gained 60 lbs during my first year on the job and have settled in at a well rounded 260 lbs - where I am today about 2 yrs later.

I guess it's time to do something about it. I'll start today, but will "officially" start Monday (I hate starting long term things in the middle of the week). Some extra motivation (as if being winded after walking up stairs isn't enough) is my wedding at the end of June. I'm 26 yrs old - any other guys about my age here...I'm guessing not too many.

So there you go, and here I am. Help if you can....please.
