| Hi ladies, I was wondering about what all we can eat. I have read we are only supposed to have foods that have no more than 3 grams of sugar, however my cottage cheese has 4 and my ricotta has 4 as well is that to much? Also, I have been eating cottage cheese for lunch and then ricotta cheese for dessert at night. In the south beach book it has meal plan days listed like that, but i heard someone say you are only supposed to have 1/2 cottage cheese total in a day. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/journal-your-way-thin/522-newbie-south-beach-questions.html Also I usually eat f/f yogurt that is sweetened with splenda it has 8 grams of sugar in it, i only ate that the first two days but should i cut that out? What about milk? Skim milk has more than 4 grams of sugar i think and they say you can have two cups of skim milk a day. I'm so confused. Please help. Thanks. Brownie | ||||||||||

| Brownie, I am not sure this is right, but I suspect that its white sugar that they are talking about. Dairy products have lactose which is where thoes sugars are comeing from.

| Lynne is right. Some foods just naturally have sugar in them. Milk contains a natural sugar called lactose, which will account for some of the sugar grams. Avoid foods with added sugar. Read the ingredients. If one of the first three ingredients is a word ending in "-ose," it's probably pretty high in sugar. Some names for added sugars include: corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice concentrate, maltose, dextrose, sucrose, honey, and maple syrup. Here's a link to the Food and Drug Administration titled "How to Understand and Use the Nutrition Facts Label". http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/foodlab.html Maybe this will be helpful to you. | |||||||||||

| Thanks for the info ladies. That helps alot!! Last night I fell off the South Beach, ahhhhhhhh, but im getting back on track today. I went to the grocery and bought choc chip cookies and ate 12 of them, it's about to be that time of the month and i just couldn't resist. Does anyone have any advice as far as what to do around that time of the month so you don't go off the deep end and splurge? Thanks. | ||||||||||
