Default Bonnie's Surf board Shack

Hey all. Thought I would try writting down what I eat and see if that helps improve how much I eat. On any normal day, my calories are any where from 700-1000. I have been told many times that I need to eat to lose weight. Sounds kinda self defeating to me though. lol I try to make myself eat more, but I don't like feeling "stuffed".
A little about me. I am starting SB today. I was going to wait until I went shopping so I have everything on hand, but turns out I have stuff to eat already that is SB legal so...here I am.
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/journal-your-way-thin/523-bonnies-surf-board-shack.html
I am 25, 5'2, 159 lbs, and a mother to 5. (3 mine 2 step). I had a weight problem from grade school up until I turned 15. When I turned 15 I realized there were BOYS! :OMG: I couldn't be fat if there were boys around! lol So I started my own diet. No breakfast, lunch was a coke and a candy bar, and then I ate dinner. By the time I was 16 I weighed 115. I thought, wow what a great diet! After that, I could eat anything I wanted because I wasn't eating breakfast or lunch. I started having problems with eating around people. I couldn't do it. I didn't want people to see me eat and think I was a cow. I got down to 111 lbs and stayed there for a good 4 years. Met my husband, got married and a year later got pregnant. Had 3 miscarriages and then finally got pregnant with child # 1. After having my son, I was able to get down to pre pregnancy weight. Woo hoo! 2 years later, got pregnant with twins!!! I gained a bit then and weighed 154 when I had them. ( they were born at 29 weeks) My doctor then decided to put me on Depo because the twins were pill babies. Well lets just say that was a very stupid idea. I gained 25 lbs in 3 months. My doctor even apologized for putting me on the shot. He said after he weighed me "this isn't you! You are always so tiny!"
Gee thanks doc.
So now I have been off the shot for about 8 months and have lost about 10 lbs since then. I started Atkins 28 days ago, lost 6 lbs and 5 inches in my waist. I have gained the 6 lbs back, but the inches are still gone thank goodness.
I want the scale to move and to keep moving down!! So here I am.
Thats my story. Thanks for listening.

:OMG: I went on a crazy diet when I was 14! Not because of boys, but because I was tired of people making fun of me. I skipped breakfast and lunch. Then for dinner I had salad and green beans with low calorie French dressing. This went on for about 3 months when I got sick with the flu. I decided that was enough of that starvation dieting! And I really only lost 60 pounds in those 3 mos.

A lot of us here are ex-Atkineers. I find this plan to be more to my liking though. I had problems with eating all the saturated fat involved with Atkins and then I also cheated too much. I think that was bad for my body. I had my cholesterol go from 180 to around 291. I'm not saying that it wouldn't have gotten better the longer I was on the plan, but like I said, I cheated too much on Atkins. I think that South Beach is better for me to be on.

Welcome to the journals! It's good to have you here.

Welcome, bonnie jo!

I'm pretty sure that if you start going by the SBD & don't worry so much about counting your calories, you'll find you'll loose much more easily. I think you're going to be very pleasantly surprised!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but SB doesn't recommend eating any beef jerky, including Slim Jims. :hide: Sorry.

So Bonnie, you are on Phase 2, right?

Some thoughts:

Are you remembering veggies are required with each meal? 1/2 cup breakfast, 2 cups lunch & dinner.
Protein is required with each meal.
Added fat is required, for both lunch & dinner, 1 TBSP each. For breakfast, 1 tsp added fat is recommended.
1/3 avocado counts as 1 TBSP fat. For most people, it's not a good idea to go much over on the added fats.

You might want to keep looking at the guidelines on the other forums here, like the Stickies.

Oh, I didn't realize an avocado was fat....lol but their so good! hehe So more veggies, I can do that when I go to the store tomorrow. I need to print the food list before I go so I will know what I can have. (still trying to get out of Atkins mode)

For dinner I had a taco salad without the shell. Just ground lean hamburger, 1 c lettuce, 1/2 a tomato, shredded low fat cheese, and onions.
As for the SB dinners go, why aren't they SB friendly? Too much fat or something? I was wanting to pick some up for DH for work. He's doing this too. Are their some that aren't as "bad" as others?

On another note, our bees came back today. We have a swarm of bees that have came through for the past year or so. We don't know if they are killer bees or not. I looked it up today and it says that Arkansas has reported killer bees in the state. How scary!! My kids play outside a lot, so I gotta be careful. I read that they are now in Arkansas, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and California. :OMG: They have spread pretty fast in the past 2 years.

I'm sorry, but is it posted somewhere on the board that the Kraft SB frozen dinners are not SB diet friendly? The South Beach stance is that whole foods are always the best choice but, when you do not have the time to prepare a home-cooked meal, you can use the SBD Kraft foods as a safety net. How often you use them is up to the individual.

To help meet the recommended vegetable intake, you're encouraged to have a side dish of vegetables, such as a salad, vegetable sticks, or a some other veggie dish. And they also suggest including a low-fat dairy serving to complete the meal.

Well, today has been bad as far as the eating goes. I didn't eat breakfast and then was in town until after lunch, so I didn't get to eat anything until dinner time. I wasn't very hungry at all today. For dinner I made turkey breasts with basil, brown rice, and frozen veggie mix of broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. I had 1 thin turkey breast, 1 cup of veggies,1 skim milk cheese stick, and maybe 1/4 c of brown rice. After dinner I had 1/4 c of apple, 1 tsp peanuts, 1/2 banana, and 2 tbs plain yogurt. It was pretty good. So was the one piece of Russell Stovers sugar free chocolate coconut candy I ate.

I have such a huge headache right now and have had it almost all day. Probably from not eating until dinner.....gotta work on that. My problem is not eating too much, but trying to eat ENOUGH. I have to make myself eat most of the time because sometimes it seems like too much of an effort.I have 5 kids and it seems like I am always running around feeding them or chasing them around, or just so tired I can't keep my eyes open. I might need to get a timer and set it to when I need to eat, just to remind myself.

I was going to pick up some lean bacon, but couldn't find any, so I was going to get the turkey bacon, but it looked puny compared the the regular stuff. Does it taste ok? Really? Or is it something you have to get used to?
