| I saw a program on TV today about getting food poisoning from fruit and vegetables and it was scary. It seems that most food poisoning comes from not meat or chicken, but fruit and vegetables. I remember seeing a sign in the commissary last month that said "The FDA recommends that you fully cook green onions" I rarely cook green onions and I wondered what they were taking about. I have always been careful to wash what I bring home, but I never thought that I should wash bagged lettuce, but you should because the more the veggie is cut, the more chance that it has come in contact with bacterias. Just can't be to careful.

| Wow! that is scary! I remember that bad case of food poisoning at a Mexican restaurant caused by scallions! I eat them raw all the time. I do wash them and sometimes use that veggie wash stuff but who knows if I'm getting it all. I buy triple washed bagged lettuce but sometimes some of the leaves in the middle of the bag go bad and I just pull them out and use what's left:OMG: Sometimes when I get an upset stomach I always think back to the last time I had chicken but I guess I should be thinking back to all the veggies I've eaten. Thanks for the heads up. I'm scrubbing everything more thoroughly after reading this post!!!:wink2: | ||||||||||

| That's wild. I had heard negative things about the bagged salads. And it's odd that you should post this today. I just threw away a bunch of celery. I made a salmon and cream cheese dip and ate it on celery. Within a few mintues I felt hot and like my skin was on fire. I turned all red and my ears hurt. The first time it happened, I had gone to therapy for my hand and the therapist asked me if I had gotten sun burned. It was a weird experience that I've never felt before. So I tested the salmon by just eating some of it and nothing happened. The cream cheese came next and nothing happened. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/kitchen/223-food-safety.html I didn't even think about the celery. But, sure enough, I just ate some more of that celery with some peanut butter and it happened again. Luckily it only lasts about 20 minutes. But, I wonder what in the world is wrong with that celery? I washed it before eating it ...... but maybe not good enough. Too bad I can't remember which store I bought it at. | |||||||||||
