Default New food products

Has anyone tried the new brown sugar Splenda yet? I bought some along with some whole whaet flour and I'm going to try to make some old fashioned oat meal cookies. I also found some sugar free chocolate chips to put in them. Then they'll be just like the SB cookies you can buy. The serving size is 2 small cookies, but I can live with that. I eat them with some hot tea and I'm in heaven.

Here are some other new products that should be coming out soon that should fit into the SB lifestyle.

Post AlphaBits No Sugar - An excellent source of whole grains and now with 0g of sugar, this 110 calorie, 2g of fat, 3g fiber cereal is a great b-fast option (and it's fun to spell words and eat them, too!).

All-Bran Bars - In Honey Oat, Brown Sugar Cinnamon & Oatmeal Raisin, these 130-calorie, 2-3g of fat, 5g of fiber bars have just 2 points each (if you count).

Sunsweet Lighter Bake Butter & Oil Replacement - New from Sunsweet (the prune peeps)-- it's a 100% fat and cholesterol free baking ingredient made from dried plums and apples. (1 Tbsp. = 35 calories).

I haven't seen the brown sugar Splenda. I use sugar twin but it has a "slight" aftertaste I'm not wild about. I'd be excited to try the Splenda version.

Yea, I haven't seen it in the stores here yet either. I've been keeping my eye out for it though.

I've got some of the Sugar Twin brand, also. Here's a way to "make" your own brown sugar. http://www.splenda.com/recipe_detail...brownsugar.inc

The Splenda brown sugar is a blend. I'm a little leary of it. It's 10 calories and 2 grams of sugar per 1/2 teaspoon! I can see that I won't be using much of that! I'm wondering if I can use this along with Sugar Twin and if it would cut down on the icky after taste. Here's info on the Splenda blend. http://www.splenda.com/page.jhtml?id.../bsb_blend.inc

More new products coming our way .......

Half-Sugar Apples on the Way?

Back in 2004, we brought you info about the grape-infused apple (aptly named the "grapple"), but now there's more news in the exciting world of fruitamorphosis. Scientists at the University of California in Davis are hard at work on a new, lower-sugar, NATURAL apple. Of the different types of sugars (fructose, sucrose and sorbitol) that are all found naturally in apples, sorbitol has half as many calories as the other two. The idea is to create fruit that contains more sorbitol, and less of the other natural sugars. Experts are confident that they can do this. So what does this mean for consumers? Fruit with fewer calories, and lower point values. Sounds simultaneously intriguing and frightening to us, but we love apples and will remain open-minded and optimistic about this fruity new development.
Would you try one of these apples?

Even Little debbie is getting in on the act ......... :Sarcastic:

Little Debbie Nourishing Snack Bars - The Debster has been busy of late, turning some of her signature snacky cakes into good-for-you bars. They come in Nutty Peanut Butter, Swiss Creme and Oatmeal Creme and each has about 110-120 calories and 2-3g fat. Yum. We can't wait to try these. http://www.hungry-girl.com/externali...ebbie.com/new/
And last but not least ........
Quote:
Sugar Free Cool Whip - There's Cool Whip Lite (lowfat), Cool Whip Free (fat free), and now SUGAR FREE COOL WHIP (sugar free). It's yet another option (with 25 calories and 1g fat per serving) in CW's ever-growing line of diet-friendly whipped toppings.

Sorry but I'll never think of Little Debbies as wholesome, nutritious food. I get particularly freaked about frankenfoods like this. Genetic engineering in the case of the apples can really muck up the molecular structure of the food and the effects won't be known for years. The testing that is done is not long enough to evaluate long term effects. And be leary of the suddenly good for you junk foods. Labeling laws are still real lax as to what needs to be posted on the labels. Somehow I think you'll find bad for you stuff in the good for you items. And too bad about the Splenda! But thanks for giving us a link on how to make your own!!!:Hug1:
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/kitchen/281-new-food-products.html

The scary thing is that with a little "politically correct" wording on the labels some people will think they are getting good nutrition! I used to work in package design in advertising for the food industry and have a particular chip on my shoulder about this so I guess I'm the radical viewpoint.

I use brown sugar twin and really like it but here it is with sodium cyclamate, not saccarine (i think that's what yours is..or maybe that was sweet n low). I find it tastes a bit different than splenda but i don't really find an aftertaste. I use the liquid sugartwin as well. When I was in the states i had some sugartwin in a coffee and I didn't like it at all. I'm pretty sure it was saccharine.

What's funny is saccharine is not approved here..but it is there..and sodium cyclamate is approved here and not there. LOL

Oh and i also got my first taste of Coke with splenda. Way too sweet for me! Guess i'm just so used to diet coke the way it is?

Yeah, I know. I remember when they did away with cycalmate here. Oh, it was a sad day since all we were left with was saccarhine as a sweetener. Phewy! And look how long Canada has used it! I think we were wrong in banning it so quickly.

I'm not too fond of Coke with Splenda myself.

What always sares me is you can buy the stuff anywhere, but on the box it says 'should be used only under the advice of a physician'. HUH????:OMG: LOL oh well, i figured i was a pack a day smoker for years, i'm sure a few drops of sugar twin here and there won't do much more damage than all those cigarettes did!
