| I went to the store today and bought 2, count them 2 jars of light Mayonnaise. The side states that it has half the fat and calories of regular so I think thats what I need to use. Right?? So when I look at the ingredient list, what is the third item, high frutose corn syrup. Regular mayo lists sugar but half way down the list, after oil, water, eggs, vinegar, lemon juice, etc. SO did I get the wrong thing?

| Lynne, Unfortunately, it looks like you grabbed the wrong one. Doing a quick check on the SBD web site, it says, for low fat mayonnaise, "avoid varieties made with high fructose corn syrup" And in a question, Dr. Agatston tells someone that if mayonnaise has HFCS as the third ingredient, it should be avoided. As far as I found, for mayonnaise, besides the HFCS, there are no other restrictions on the sugars. You can have regular mayonnaise (1 TBSP) or low fat mayonnaise (2 TBSP). I know it can be frustrating, especially in the beginning. I returned something I'd already opened, explaining that I hadn't realized it had an ingredient that I should not eat. | ||||||||||

| I so know it, Lynne. After buying the wrong things a few times, now sometimes I read through the complete label & ingredients 3 or 4 times. Sometimes it's only after reading the INGREDIENTS that I realize there's a problem (everything else on the label can check out fine). It does get easier! Forgot to tell you...it's more expensive, but I LOVE the Smart Balance low fat mayo. I think it has only canola & olive oils, the best kinds. | ||||||||||

| Lynne, I'd personally rather go with the 1 tablespoon of regular mayo than 2 tbsp's of low fat. I checked on my favorite mayo and the regular version is all good stuff but the reduced cal and the reduced fat both have corn syrup! This is my favorite regular mayo http://www.dukesmayo.com/N_dukes_r.asp | |||||||||||

| Here is another product that I really like, I think it would be an o.k. alternative on SB, if not someone let me know. Anyway, I would not be good in all situations where you normally use mayo, but I really do like this stuff http://www.misomayo.com/index.html | |||||||||||

| Spectro (usually sold in health food stores and now in a lot of grocery stores and is a national brand) makes some awesome tasting canola mayo's without HFCS. I buy the regular mayo and the low fat. I only use the low fat when I am mixing chicken or tuna salad, as I tend to need to use more to moisten the salad enough. But on sandwiches or what not I'm good with a tablespoon of regular. Moggys brands aren't available by me so who knows if mine will be available by you! I LOVE making caesar salad dressing with the spectro mayo. It takes on an awesome taste with garlic, like a really good aoili! Another thing that is helpful is that the light mayo is eggless which is great for vegans! | ||||||||||
