| Does anyone have Hypothyroid or thyroid issues in general? I have a very hard time losing weight because of it. Other then healthy eating, it's the main reason I'm on SB right now.

| I ahve Hypothyroid. If you are having a real hard time losing it most likely means your thyroid dosage is not Optimized most docs perscribe on the TSH alone you need to find one that perscibes on free T4 and Free T3 to get in the range where you are not ahving problems any more. I myself am having trouble with this as well right now and hope to find a doc like the one I had before. You can lose but, I will say this EXERCISE is even more important for us with a low thyroid. | I'm also hypothyroid (from Grave's disease, radiation treatment to hypo), and have been for the last 11 years. I agree with Sarah, we definitely need exercise to help us, and it's important to make sure you are on the right amount of medication (diet and exercise can affect the levels you should be taking). It's hard to lose, but it's not impossible | |||||||||||

| There are a LOT of foods that are goitrogens... They will decrease the thyroid functioning and thus will decrease your metabolism and the weight comes off slower. Including: Soybeans (and soybean products such as tofu) Pine nuts Peanuts Millet Strawberries Pears Peaches Spinach Bamboo shoots Radishes Horseradish Vegetables in the genus Brassica Bok choy Broccoli Broccolini (Asparations) Brussels sprouts Cabbage Canola Cauliflower Chinese cabbage Choy sum Collard greens Kai-lan (Chinese broccoli) Kale Kohlrabi Mizuna Mustard greens Rapeseed (yu choy) Rapini Rutabagas Tatsoi Turnips | |||||||||||

| "There are a LOT of foods that are goitrogens" Wow. I never knew or had been told about some foods affecting or causing your thyroid not to work correctly with meds. I also have Hypothyroid after Graves Disease, radioactive treatment in the summer of 2003. I have never heard anything about Goitroens. I take my pill first thing in the morning and don't eat anything for at least an hour. Is there better time to take it, this has been my routine for years now? I just started SB again and am on the 13th day with excersising on the wii fit plus, down 7lbs. | ||||||||||

| I have been hypothyroid for 28 years now. I used to think my thyroid was holding me back from losing weight easily, but I am not so sure anymore. Three years ago I changed doctors. First thing she did was knock my thyroid dose down because she said it was hyperfunctioning. (Which for me, is very normal) she didnt understand that my body and the blood tests were in a very different range. In decreasing my synthroid I grew a thyroid nodule, ALL my symptoms of hypo-thyroid came back with a vengence. ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/lets-get-healthy-chat/1010-hypothyroid.html I started having heart problems and suddently spiked cholestrol. She finally put me back up one dose (she initially dropped me three doses back) and things started to change back. My nodule shrunk but I still had many many symptoms left. After a year of that I couldnt take it anymore, I kept going downhill with complaints. I went back to my Internist as of this past October and he put me back up to where I was in the first place at .2 synthoid once a day. It has taken a couple of months but I feel 100% again! I am so happy.. ALL the problems with the lower does are gone finally.. I am considered running a bit on the hyperside but for me this is normal. Some doctors seem more intrested in covering thier butts by the numbers on the blood test, than actually listening to the patient. I had chosen that kind of doctor.. But I am now back to the Internist who understands the body and the blood test may not always agree and sometimes you have to listen to what the patient says. I cant say that the thyroid is really an issue with weight loss because I did lose over 27 pounds on the lower dose of synthroid and now that I am back to normal I still have lost weight.. The only thing I can think of is exercise and following South Beach Diet is the only thing connected to both situations for me pertaining to my weight loss. South Beach seems to be very thyroid friendly in my case.. just wondered if this was the case for others with thyroid issues? | ||||||||||
