Later year my cholesterol had been borderline high at 227... it is now 257 and I'm being put on meds.... The first thing I will do is throw away the yolks from my eggs that I eat everymorning... anyone else have high cholesterol? what are you doing to control it? Not sure if mine is even controllable... it is definitely heriditary.... from my dad... Thanks Dad!! :Love Doctor:

I'll find out next month if I've been successful in getting mine down. I'm hoping that SB will help me get my bad cholesterol down and the good cholesterol up.

Mary, did your doctor tell you to give up the egg yolks?

Here are some dietary guidelines from the American heart Association on lowering your cholesterol. http://www.cholesterollowdown.org/ad...iet/index.html
  • Less Saturated Fat. Watch your caloric intake by eating a wide variety of foods low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Eat fat-free or 1% milk dairy products rather than whole-milk dairy products.
  • Fill Up On Fruits and Vegetables. Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
  • More Fiber. Eat six or more servings of cereals, breads, pasta and other whole-grain products
  • More Fiber. Eat six or more servings of cereals, breads, pasta and other whole-grain products.
  • Less meat. Eat fish, poultry without skin and leaner cuts of meat instead of fatty ones.
I don't know why they've got eat more fiber on there twice but they do. Anyway, these guidelines sound an awful lot like the SBD, Mary.

Is he putting you on meds right away or will he give you a chance to try to lower yours on your own with diet and exercise? Mine gave me 6 months and like I said I go next month to get the results.

Niacin is also suppose to help lower bad cholesterol, but it gave me a terrible reaction. I had to throw them away. There's suppose to be a timed release kind but I just gave up on it.

He gave 3 months last year... I was due back last September but due to lack of insurance, I didn't go back... now that I'm married and on my husbands insurance.. I finally got back there, so I've had a year to bring it down... I've been following LC since September so..... don't think mine is coming down... my dad was the same way, his cholesterol went high in his 30's and never came down... he has many heart problem... don't want to think about that though....

The doctor did not specifically say to cut the yolks but I looked at the National Institute of Health and the TLC diet and it says you should have less that 200mg of cholesterol a day... 1 yolk has 217.77mg...

But low carb dieting isn't low cholesterol. Low carb, like Atkins, is pretty darn high in fat. South Beach is a good diet for lowering cholesterol. Just my 2 cents.

Of course, you and your doctor should work this all out. I'm no doctor ......... but I wish I earned their kind of money!

Well, then why throw out your egg yolks? You'll be on meds. Might as well enjoy them.

Thanks for that link, Mary! Everything in it tells me that The South Beach Diet is the way to go as far as lowering cholesterol and being heart healthy. This weight loss plan totally rocks!
