You bring up some very good questions.
I think that children exercise less than in the past. They sit and play video games too much, too much time at the computer, too many hours in front of the t.v.
I think they eat too many processed foods, not to mention fast food. Mom's don't have time to cook healthy meals like they use to. Kids drink too many soda pops instead of water. And read the labels on foods sometimes! Almost everything has high fructose corn syrup or some other kind of added sugar.
And, this is just my opinion, but I think there's a mental and emotional reason in some cases. Even as a child I tended to overeat to fill some void in my life. I didn't feel loved enough. There was a lot of turmoil in the house. My mom worked all the time and my dad was emotionally distant. I was left to my own devices most of the time. I didn't realize it back then, but I started using food to make myself feel better and to stuff the negative feelings down. I guess food touched some pleasure center in my brain and made me feel better about things ........ temporarily. Sounds like a drug. Right?
Of course there's a down side to just about everything. I
really put on the weight when I hit puberty and then I started getting picked on and ridiculed by others for being fat. Not to mention it's not very healthy and really runs up the food bill!
What's some other opinions here? I'd like to read what you all think. Do you think I have some valid points here or am I all wet?
