Default Question about Soy

I really dont know if any of you have the answer to this question but it doesnt hurt to ask:Sad2:
My aunt had breast cancer and a mastectomy about 8 yrs ago. When we went to visit in February she told me to ask my doctor on my next check up to run a test to see if I was estrogen negative or postive??? She said if your estrogen positive your not supposed to have alot of Soy. Has anyone ever heard of this? And of coarse i forgot to mention it to my doctor when i went:hide:
She was just concerned about us girls since she is a maternal aunt with breast cancer.

Deblynn, I am a breast cancer survivor and read about soy a few years ago and decided that while I wouldn't quit eating it, (I lived in Japan at the time) but I wouldn't overdo it.
I found this article for you. You might have seen Dr Weil on PBS, he talks sence but he is still on low fat diet cures all kick so I only go to him on other than diet talk.

Doesn't it always seem to be the case that a whole food is good for you and a processed food is usually not good for you!!!!

Default Estrogen Dominance & Soy

If you are experiencing problems with an imbalance of hormones I'd be hesitant to tip the scales any further.
In moderation it's probably safe, it takes more than one condition to launch a cancer. Excessive free sugars have been implicated in acclerated growth of abnormal tissue.
Where do you stand on GMO's and frankenfoods?
Insecticides & herbicides and so on.
Keep in mind that it may be called Science but it's more an Art.

GMO = Genetically modified organism

Frankenfood =
Quote:
Frankenfood (named after Mary Shelley's character in her novel Frankenstein) is a label of disapproval applied to food products deemed to have been produced by unnatural—and by implication, dangerous—means. The term was coined in 1992 by Paul Lewis, an English professor at Boston College who used the word in a letter he wrote to the New York Times in response to the decision of the US Food and Drug Administration to allow companies to market genetically modified food.

The term is applied to the use of genetically modified organisms in food production, a common practice in the United States but widely rejected in parts of Europe. "Frankenfood" has become a battle cry of the European side in the US-EU agricultural trade war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenfood

Does anybody on this thread know much about soy intolerance? I have no idea if I am estrogen positive or negative but my recent bout of stomach ailment has got me thinking that I may be soy intolerant. They couldn't find the cause of my problem and they are labeling it as IBS but this came out of the blue. And interestingly it came at a time when I recently added a lot of soy to my diet.

I've been eating Soy creamer, Edamame, dry-roasted edamame regularly. Recently I added some silken tofu to a energy shake the SB Quick & Easy cookbook featured and it felt like my stomach was "buzzing" after I downed it. Then I had tofu lettuce wraps the weekend before and WHAM. The next day is when my stomach pain started in full force. Oh and I forgot to mention that one time when I was low carbing I had a low carb cereal made with soy isolate protein and it doubled me over.

But I was noticing that during the last month I was getting twinges in my stomach and thought it was my ovaries acting up mid cycle because they felt like period cramps. And I noticed I would feel this the morning after eating the dry roasted edamame. So.......

I'm thinking I don't have IBS but have Soy intolerance that is mimicking the symptoms? I am now on a temporary med for IBS - Zelnorm. Have to take it for 4-6 weeks. So it will be hard to tell if I have an intolerance because I'm introducing this to the mix. I had Soy creamer yesterday morning and still had the same stomach cramps I've been having. This morning I didn't have the creamer and my stomach feels better, but I've been on the meds for 2 days now. I'm thinking I'll try the creamer again tomorrow morning and if I get cramps then I will self diagnose myself as soy intolerant and cut all soy out for good.
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/lets-get-healthy-chat/285-question-about-soy.html

Maybe you guys know someone who can't tolerate soy (other than the threat of breast cancer?).....?
