Default Blood Sugar Reading

My dad just got a home testing kit the other day so I decided to test my blood sugar. It had been 5 hours since I had eaten anything and my reading was 190. In the booklet it said normal people without dibetes is 110 or less from fasting for 2 hours. Does this mean mine is really high?
Also, my 16 year old sister did hers and it was 201. She had eaten about 1 1/2 before testing. Any suggestions?

Hi!

I would suggest that you see your doctor and maybe have him run an A1C test to see what your average BS level has been for the past 3 months. We cannot give medical advise here as none of us are doctors. So, with that said...........check with your doctor!

I agree with Bren. See what your doctor says. Every doctor is different. My doctor had me go for the A1C initially. It was 7.9 (it is now 5.8). He then sent me for a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) which confirmed that I was a diabetic.

If your doctor suggests going for the Glucose Tolerance Test, make sure that you are not doing SB (or any type of low carb for that matter) for at least 72 to 96 hours before the test. That's because low carb may give a lower reading.
