Default Pcos

My doctor specifically recommended SB or Weight Watchers because of my PCOS Poly Cystic Ovary diagnosis. The cysts are harmless and a symptom of the disorder.

I was familiar with WW but had access to an SB cookbook and like the attention to insulin which is an PCOS issue. This has been a challenge because Ive always been big on simple diets processed dinners to lose weight and not really concerned about the healthiness as long as they were veggie, meat and starches. Those diets though always seem highly starch based so Im working the rules of SB.

Just curious if any other PCOS folks were here.

Sun, while I don't know if we have any PCOS members, our sister board on the Atkins site has a whole forum about it. It might give you some ideas and support. Check it out. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=59

While I don't have PCOS, I can tell you that eating on this diet has definitely impacted the way my monthly cycle hits me. Ridding myself of the sugars and white flours makes my breasts less tender before my period and my menstural cramps seem to have lessened some. My periods seem more manageable now.

And that is quite an accomplishment for me because for years I was having such horrible cramps that I was put on a medication for them (which barely took the edge off). Now some months I don't need the medication at all (except for a couple of Advil a few times per day on day 1 or 2) and when I do take the meds, they tame the cramps to something more manageable.

I do believe ridding myself of the sugar monkey and white flours had something to do with this improvement!

I'm new to the SB Boards. My doctor recently put me on this diet due to being diagnosed as Diabetic. She preferred that I do SB vs. WW. I also have PCOS.

I love these boards and have really learned a lot.

Welcome! I have low blood sugar and there are diabetics in my immediate family. Since eating this way, I haven't had any severe blood sugar drops and my energy level stays constant.

I can't imagine eating anyother way now and it doesn't even feel like I'm dieting!!!:Welcome:

I too have PCOS and have been told to do this or keep having strange peroids and high blood pressure.
Went to the dr today blood pressure is 4 pts above normal after only two weeks vs about 12 points above normal, lost 11.5 lbs and have more energy.
Think Im gunna keep it up . . . guess I can do it. . . who knew!

I think it's nice when we get some of those positive indicators that are health related in addition to the scale numbers to help us understand this is really changing us from the inside out in a good way and in ways that are not always apparent on the outside or on the scale. Glad things are improving in all those areas!!
