By law a company can say that there is 0 grams of anything in their product if it's not a full gram per serving. So, they can make a serving really small and if it's 0.9 grams of sugar, they can still list it as sugar free. At least I know it's true for America. I think that in Canada they have to list ingredients right down to every gram. I wish that America would stop that practice and tell us every single thing that's in our foods! Things would be so much easier then.

So, to answer your question ........ no, it's not allowed in phase one. Beware of any lunch meats that read "brown sugar cured" or "honey roasted" on the labels. And sugar should not be in the list of ingredients. It's not normal or natural to have sugar in meats.

I hope this helps and don't hesitate to ask questions. So glad to have you post here. Much success to you on your journey! :sun:

I was just at the official SB site to make 100% sure that I'm right with my answer to your question. They say that most processed meats contain a small amount of added sugar used in processing, and those are fine to have.

However the products to avoid are those that specifically use words such as 'honey' or 'maple' cured, as these contain a significant amount of sugar added to them.

I'm sorry if I confused you with my "meat with sugar isn't normal or natural" statement. I think I'm still kind of right but it is allowed on the SBD plan if it's a part of the processing or curing.
