Dr. Agatston: This is a very good question, for which there is no definitive answer. Scientific studies have not shown ill effects of artificial sweeteners in general and of the sweeteners used in Diet Coke in particular. Still, I am concerned with drinking or consuming excessive amounts of any single source of nutrition, and I do understand that Diet Coke can often be quite addictive. My advice would be some moderation--1 to 2 cans of Diet Coke per day.

I've read this post before and had to revisit it again because cheating is what got me to returning to Phase 1.

For some people the occasional treat seems to speed up their metabolism and they don't get derailed from their goals but I don't think many people fall into this category.

I personally find I used to be able to eat pretty much whatever I wanted. Those days are long gone. I am turning 40 this year and I have to watch what I eat all the time. I also notice that I need to work out more and with more intensity.

SBD is by far the most satifsying way of controlling my weight. I just lost sight of my goal and started cheating - and it totally got out of hand.

I would agree that a little cheating turns into a lot cheating. All the emotional beating up on ourselves that comes along with just makes it worse.

So I have made the commitment to stick to the rules, and to visit the boards every day. This keeps me on track. Thanks everyone.
