| The downside is that the tomato sauce used in the chili could have high fructose corn syrup in it and the chili meat is made from their hamburgers which has a high saturated fat content. Plus the sodium content is real high so you will probably go up on the scale from water retention. Not the best choice in the world but you could do worse. I'd eat it as an exception but not make a regular habit out of it. And Phase 1 only lasts 2 weeks so it would be best to skip it during Phase 1 and only make that exception once you've been on Phase 2 for a while....... | ||||||||||

| Thank you! I was just wondering what foods are good at fast food places. I havent been able to find a website with that info on it yet. I dont have the SB book, just decided to try it as i know a couple people that have and have lost the weight. Does anyone know of a site that shows what can and cannot be ordered at a restuarant in phase one? I am also watching my nephew tomorrow and he LOVES olive garden. I know i can eat their salads... but change the dressing? | ||||||||||

| Probably your best bet would be a vinegrette and order it on the side. Stay away from sweet dressings. And then any lean meat, baked or broiled, with a side of vegetables is usually your best best choice. No pasta and no bread though. There's a dining out guide that you can purchase or pay to join the official web site. You might do a search on Google. Other than that .... there's just us. | |||||||||||

| Its crazy since I dont really realize that their are other things to eat that are on phase 1 at restaurants! I just always order the SAME things! I LOVE their soup and salads... most of all... THOSE YUMMY breadsticks! I just cant help myself with those! Although i can definately fill up on their salads! They are always so fresh! I am going to Target this morning to get some cleaning supplies, so i will see if they have that book there or not. There is also a barnes and nobles bookstore in the same shopping area, so ill check that too. I am really an eat out person since we never really have time to actually cook! But i need to learn that SOON!!! well like NOW!! Again, thank you for your help. I am really glad i found this board! | ||||||||||

| Jennifer, When you go in Olive Garden, you can ask for a special little low-fat menu they have. If the waiter doesn't know about it you can ask him to ask the manager. (The manager brought it to me but the waiter didn't tell me about it.) | ||||||||||

| Also when you get to Phase 2, I have heard that Olive Garden is now offering whole wheat pasta. I'm SURE the serving sizes are way more than our legal portion -- so you'd have to be disciplined not to overeat (take the rest home!!), but at least that's a step in the right direction. Really it is pretty easy to dine out on SB, you just need to stick to the plan and not have the breads, pastas, etc. just like at home stick to lean meats and plenty of veggies and don't add added fat. You can pretty much order that way on just about any menu. Dr. Agatston suggests having a snack or a club soda or water before going to dine out so you don't hit the restaurant "starving". That usually helps to quell the temptation to scarf up those breadsticks!!!! Good luck out there!!! | ||||||||||

| And sometimes a good technique is to get a take-home container as soon as you get your food. Keep only the right portion size on your plate. And keep the breadstick basket away from you if it tempts you too much. You can send it back after others take what they want. | ||||||||||

| Well went to Olive Garden..... Those bread sticks are the teaser!! We ordered the salad... No dressing! I picked out a couple of pieces... other than that I drank my water like crazy! Then came those breadsticks! First thing, I put them across the table and didnt look that direction! I ordered a piece of grilled chicken (which actually isnt on the menu, but is noted that you can make a special request to the waiter) and some steamed veggies. I was actually full when i ate the first 3 pieces of chicken. So i sat there and drank my water and got my to go box asap! ????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/1126-can-i-have-wendys-chili.html My newphew even ordered dessert! I was VERY temped too, but i said... NO! I will go home and eat my sugar free fudgsicle and pretend that its a black tie mousse cake! (MMM yummy!) while they ate their desserts at home! I really am not craving sugar as i thought i would be. The main reason why i ate so much before was because i was bored... i know... that sounds weird. But its true! I just ate to eat! Now i am learning to control my portions and eat only until full. Its only been 3 days, but believe me, i have learned a lot. Ok, well off to Target! I hope they have that book! I looked it up online and its only $8. I will take it where ever i go! | ||||||||||
