Well, the people from the South Beach Diet would prefer that we use skim milk in our coffee. Even though Coffee mate says sugar free on the package, if you read the list of ingredients, corn syrup is the second thing listed. And the next thing is hydrogenated oils which is a trans fat, even though they say there is 0% trans fats in the product. According to labeling rules in the U.S. they can say there is 0 trans fats and sugars in an item if the amount is under 1%. I wish they would change those rules.
But, truth be told, I have been known to use some of the Coffee mate. That was the one big thing that I really missed from when I was doing Atkins. I can do the low fat cheese and the skim milk and lean meat and all of that, but I
really missed the cream in my coffee. Skim milk in coffee just doesn't do it for me. But, I do have to say that it's easy to overdo it.
I'm going to let you make the decsion whether or not to use it. South Beach is all about making the right choices. I would just watch out because it's easy to use too much. And even though we don't have to count calories on this plan we should still be aware of them.
I believe that some of the members were using a soy creamer and using something like sugar free Da Vinci or Toranni syrups for flavoring. Try doing a search of creamer with our search tool at the top of the page and perhaps you can find more on the subject.
I hope this helps.
