Default A Bit Confused About Phase 1

Hi all. I'm a bit new to South Beach, having done Atkins for quite awhile but I felt like I needed to get rid of some of the fat in my diet.

I'm a bit confused about phase one and even though I've read the book a few times, I'm still confused.

On Atkins, we could pretty much have limited meat and cheese but I'm a bit confused on South Beach. I know I'm supposed to eat three meals, two snacks and a dessert. The snacks - is it just one item such as 15 almonds or can you have 15 almonds and a low fat string cheese? Also what if you eat your three meals, two snacks and a dessert and you're still hungry in the evening - can you have something on the allowed foods or are you done for the day?

Sorry for such a weird question but I'm used to Atkins and adjusting to South Beach is a bit different.

Thanks for all the help.

I'm not the almighty of SBD, but IMO if your still hungry after eating your meals, bump up your protions of veggies or make a bigger salad to go with your meal. As for snacks, I don't think adding an extra one will hurt. Just don't overdo it, and try to make it between meals with only one snack before you give in to that hunger. (try drinking some water, or a cup of coffee, something like that and see if you still feel hungry 5 minutes later) If you feel like your starving, by all means, have a cheese stick, or a few more nuts...as long as you don't start throwing in "bad snacks" instead of the good ones, you should be okay.

My first time on the beach, I was always sneeking back to the kitchen; a few almonds, or a cheese stick, or a piece of canadian bacon, or a couple pistacios...they won't kill your diet. It's when you eat the entire can of almonds or the whole bag of pistacios that will get ya! Phase 2 does get easier in the fact that you get things like old fashion oatmeal (which really helps keep you fuller longer) So keep the faith in phase 1 and like I said, if your hungry, YES eat that SBD friendly snack to get you through..that's what their for in my opinion!
