It's ok to have coffee if it does not cause you to have cravings. They said try to limit it to 2 cups a day. I drank more than that though.

Every person is different so just listen to your body.

On the other hand, I do find I get cravings with coffee. (It does cause increased insulin, which would lead to lower blood sugar.)

But on SBD, we can change our way of thinking. You don't blow it. You're learning a new way of eating for life. You're finding out what works for your body, for a healthy life. Just keep getting yourself back on course when necessary, and it'll work.

In the South Beach Diet book, the list of foods to avoid during phase 1 includes all dairy -- yogurt, cup-style and frozen, ice cream, milk - low fat, fat free, whole and soy milk.

I've seen contradictory postings here and elsewhere -- can someone confirm if dairy is a go or no go?

    Thanks!

The problem is that the book came out in 2003 and since that time there was a study that suggested that dairy actually helps in weight loss. As new science comes out, the SBD makes the appropriate changes and updates.

I belong to the SBD pay web site and that's where I get most of my information. I'm not going to say that I haven't found contradicting info on their web site either. That's something that is very frustrating. But, you can trust the infomation about the dairy that we have here on this board as it is the latest.

    So enjoy!

    Default yougart

Im not clear for phase 1 does low fat yougart include nonsugar but flavored yougart. Im thinking the 'diet' yougarts have a sugar free options.

Is just plain low fat yougart the only option

Yes, low fat plain yogurt is the only kind allowed for two weeks of phase one. Some of us use sugar free syrups to flavor the yogurt with.
