Default I lost 20 pounds in 3 days, now i've gained 6 in 2

Hey guys,

I've been on phase 1 for a week now and at first it was great, i lost like 20 pounds in 3 days.
But then i plateaued and worse since before yesterday i gained 6 pounds.

I've been following this diet to a tee (i cheated a little bit yesterday i had a chip and a half, and a piece of chocolate under 60 calories, under 6 g of carbs)

I dont know whats going on...how could i have gained this much weight back...
I dont even think i've eaten 5 pounds of food in the last 2 days...

Thanks for any help

You probably lost lots of water weight. There is no way to lose 20 lbs of fat in 3 days. Just stick on the diet and things will all even out. Lets rediscuss in 3 weeks.

Hey Tom,

I know it's the water weight in the first few days...and it's normal to lose all of it in one shot, however i'm not understanding the sudden significant weight gain...

I mean 2 chips could not have hurt plus the small piece of chocolate was present in the first days aswell...

the only thing i can think of that changes was that i started taking omega 3 6 9 pills...any idea if this might cause water retention?

Could be anything. Do you feel OK? I would just stick with it and I bet in 2 more days or so it will be back off.

Default Scale Watcher!!!

Here's my input on the subject...
Don't be a SCALE watcher... :Catfight:
I know...it will drive you bonkers. I can weigh myself 1st thing in the morning & then right before bed...and there is a 5-6 lb. difference. I'm not kidding you. I can get up, weigh myself, have 2 cups of coffee, weigh myself again and have gained 2 lbs....explain that one. Then, turn around, go to the bathroom & lose 3...lol....man, I'm telling you it will drive you crazy as hell and kill your motivation if you get on the scale at the wrong time.

Weigh yourself once a week...at the same time of the day each time, wearing the same thing...if you can. (I suggest 1st thing in the morning)

Then when you see that huge loss, instead of little one's every day, you will be so pumped up, you'll stay on track all week!!! If you get on it every day, the day you see that gain may just deepen that "why do I bother?" mode & your grabbing a candy bar or cookies...not good....save that huge number for the end of the week...it makes for good motivation!!!

Default Yep, Normal

Weight gains are normal.

It's like buying a blue chip stock. It goes up & down, but over time, it ends up in the profit column.

Are you approaching this as a low carb plan? Are you getting in your good carbs in P1? milk/yogurt? beans/legumes? minimum of 4.5 cups of veggies a day? This sounds like a low carbers glycogen depletion/water weight drop and glycogen storage/water weight gain than anything else.
????: South Beach Diet Forums http://www.southbeachdietbulletinboard.com/south-beach-diet-forums-phase-1/1877-i-lost-20-pounds-3-days-now-ive-gained-6-2-a.html

BTW, it still sounds like you are down 14 lbs. nothing to sneeze at!

As someone once said to me early in my journey, "if you are going to eat this way for the rest of your life, does it really matter how quickly you lose the weight?" I pondered that for a few days, reached the only intelligent answer of "no, not really" and never looked back or worried too much about the number on the scale after that. Make the focus learning how to eat properly and well for the rest of your life, and the scale will co-operate along the way. But it will always go up, down and sideways in short periods of time. Only long term trends (weeks and months) really matter.
