Default Any hope for an extremely picky eater?

My MIL just gave me a SB book and at very first glance it looked ok. But now after reading some more I'm not so sure. I need to loose weight, at least 30 pounds. Hopefully 50. However, I am a very very picky eater.

I looked throught the list of allowable foods for phase one and the only things
on there that I will eat are cucumbers, green beans, radishes, pickles, tomatoes, cashews, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds! I'll eat salad sometimes, but I get sick of it after about 2 days.

Should I even bother to try this? Can one survive on those 8 or 9 items?

When I say picky, I mean extrelmely picky!
I will not eat any fish or seafood, most veggies (except corn, carrots, green beans), hate salad dressing, turkey, eggs (though I will occassionally eat an omlete as long as it has a lot of sausage or ham to cover the taste of the eggs and a lot of cheese to cover the taste of the meat). Don't like cereal except the sweetened kind, chicken is ok, hamburger is ok as long as it's burnt, hate steak though, don't like luch meat , hate yogurt. Hate cottage cheese, ricotta chese, onions, mushrooms, coffee, tea (except sugared iced tea), oatmeal, artificial sweetners including splenda, beans (except baked beans). And I cover every meat in tons of ketchup to drown out the taste.

We eat a lot of unhealty meals: spaghetti, hamburgers, tacos, ravioli, pizza, potatoes, meatballs, lasagne. It's also hard to loose weight when you have to feed a husband and an even pickier 4 year old! They won't eat chicken. I also have a MAJOR caffeine addiction. It's a very bad Pepsi addiction which I have been trying to break for years now. I just can't deal with the extremely bad headaches without it. I drink a lot of pepsi.

Any suggestions??? I've tried weight watchers which lasted less than 2 weeks. The south beach looked ok, but I hate all the meals listed in the book. It looks like all the breakfast meals are eggs which I don't like

Well you don't have to use any of the meal plans in the book. The meal model and the food lists in the sticky threads here in this forum can help you put together a meal plan that is probably better than the ones in the book.

As to your pickiness. I think it is really up to you. You have already essentially proven to yourself that the way you eat now only leads to you being overweight. If you want to permanently change your weight, health and fitness levels, then you have to change the way you eat and exercise. It really depends which one you value more and the choices you make. For the most part this is a vegetable based eating program in that it is the highest volume of any food group you consume. It doesn't have to be salads, but the meal model includes a 1/2 cup for breakfast, 2 cups for lunch and 2 cups for dinner as bare MINIMUMS. You don't have to eat eggs for breakfast, but you do need some lean proteins, good fats and good carbs in a reasonable balance to start your day.

So to be bluntly honest, if those are the only foods you are willing to eat, then no, this is not a good plan for you. But SB is just a compilation of current trends/recommendations for healthy eating in general. If you want to lose weight healthily and live a healthy active lifestyle, then pretty much all healthy dietary programs will converge around eating lots of vegetables, lean proteins, good fats, fruits, nuts, beans/legumes and whole grains all in as natural and unprocessed state as possible. That is really what our bodies were designed to work with and what makes them happy!

Good luck whichever way you decide to go and know that there are folks here willing to help you along the way!

Default I guess what he is trying to say is

you can have results, or you can have excuses, but you cannot have them both... Something I'm trying really hard to beat into my own head..

Dam girl I thought I was bad with food...LOL...

Frenchie is so blunt, I may as well be too...I can't help it...your calling yourself a 'picky eater'???.....lol....pizza, tacos, spaghetti, potatoes, burgers, lasagna, meatballs????.....picky?...sounds more like a 'spoiled' eater...lol...(no offense) but, who wouldn't wanna be able to eat that stuff all the time??? Wish I could do that, but my weight seems to approach the 300 pound mark when I do...it's just not healthy...and I've also learned how much better I feel when I eat right...I used to get Migraines...every day...had perscription meds & everything....I'm off the meds and have not taken any since starting SB again....Your getting headaches cause your blood sugar is out of wack...and your prime material for type 2 diabetes as well at this rate...

It's up to YOU...(no one else)....if you defeat yourself before you start by coming into it with a negative attitude & excuses, it won't work any better than weight watchers....but if your really ready to lose some weight, this diet works. Simple as that.....picky eater or not..it's designed so anyone can make it their own...Your the only one who can make it work for you, my friend...You have to be positive....now are you ready?

Stay focused...we're here for you...but you have to convince yourself your ready first....can you do that? :Hug2:
