Why did you fail? Did you set yourself up for "failure" with unreasonable expectations of fast weight loss? Because you expect "perfection" and anything less than 100% on plan eating is failure? You really only fail when you stop trying. If you know where you are headed, then the missteps in between are just speedbumps and detours, because you still have a goal and a direction you know you need to go in. This is a long term process. It takes time and fundamental lifestyle changes are never easy. But they are worthwhile to continue to strive for. Don't accept less from yourself than you are worth and you are worth quite a bit! Baby steps. Make as many good food choices today as you can and worry about tomorrow when it comes. Work on learning how to make more good food choices that support your goals and direction than inappropriate choices that deter you from those goals and get you off course. But when you do, realize it's not the end of the world, you didn't blow it and you didn't fail. You just made a choice and you get the opportunity to make a better one the very next time you choose to put something in your mouth. The greater the ratio of good choices to inappropriate choices, the greater your chances for long term success. Of course you can do this!!

To know me is to love me... We have two cats by the way, and two daughters (14 and 17) and married for 24 years so far...

Listen, I've been at this thing for 4.5 years. I moderate on another SB board and I've seen literally thousands of people come and go and very few actually "make it". Those that do, aren't "dieting". They are eating healthy foods in sufficient quantities to support their personal activity levels and exercising regularly and often quite frequently and they have made a commitment to making changes at a fundamental level. There's no magic in this stuff, it's essentially eat better and move more at it's most basic level.

If you are doing those things consistently over time, you will either a.) get to where you want to go to or b.) be well on your way and at least have a sound basis for understanding where to tweak things to get continue weight loss and c.) be much healthier than when you started even if the number on a scale isn't totally where you want it to be. "Diets" don't do any of those things and simply don't work because the true key is sustainability. If you can't eat well in P2 and enjoy the process, then you won't be able to make P3 work which is simply P2 without any scale movement as a positive feedback mechanism. (cue BB King, "The Thrill is Gone" background music) If you approach SB as a "diet", then your chances of long term success are roughly about the same as the cabbage soup diet or grapefruit diet.

That's what I know and what I believe and what I preach day after day, week after week, year after year. It's nice when someone actually listens and internalizes the message and takes it to heart, but mostly it just falls on deaf ears because it's all about bathing suit season, a wedding, a reunion, a cruise, january resolutions and all those other fixed events for which we "have to" lose weight.

I can rant on this stuff all day long! (and often do... ) One day at a time, one person at a time. It's within all of us. We're all capable. Heck, we're all the most amazing beings that we can possibly imagine. We just have to imagine and then be. start today. what do you have to lose? (hehehe...)
