| Hi, I'm so glad I found you. I went searching for a SBD forum and found this great one. I started Phase 1 six days ago and have had my ups and downs but am doing better than expected. I don't feel like I have lost anything yet but I know eventually the weight will come off. I was motivated to start SBD as my blood sugar turned up a little high on a physical exam. With a history of gestational diabetes with three kids, my father having diabetes and my mother's mom having it; I knew I needed to make some changes--for good. I guess tomorrow will be my first BIG test. I am going to be at a conference all day. I am planning to take snacks but I have no idea what is going to be available for lunch. I'm just going to make the best choice possible given the situation. Anyway, I'll be reading all the posts here and gleaning from your experiences. Thanks for sharing! | ||||||||||

| Good luck and Welcome! I have been doing SB for 3 weeks and have lost a total of 7 lbs. Not as much as I thought but I am able to tell the difference in my body so I am motivated. I was happy to start Phase 2 a week ago even though I am only adding one starch and one fruit a day. Just look for lots of vegies at the conference and cheeses and meats. Just keep telling yourself you can make it through. You will do fine. I also have gotten a lot of good advice from just reading around this board. Andrea | ||||||||||

| Thanks for the reply Andrea. I couldn't believe the limited choices but I made it through. Just had to get a sandwich and only eat the meat and veggies. I took some cheese sticks and nuts for snacks. I was pretty hungry by the end of the conference but came home and ate a big salad with some meat and beans. All is well and one more day down. I am halfway through Phase 1. I am so excited I've made it this far. I feel like after today and after the first week, I am home free! | ||||||||||

and best wishes on your journey to good health and weight loss and maintenance. It is kind of amazing once you start understanding what healthy eating is all about, how precious little of it actually goes on in this country and the enormous pressures and options that exist to prevent you from succeeding. I always had the mentality that I was simply going to beat the odds no matter what and :Catfight: to anyone getting in my way. so far, so good!

| I agree but after starting the SBD and changing my eating habits I am beginning to see how I could do this for the rest of my life. It just isn't worth it to buy into all the junk that is being advertised and sold out there! 8th day down!! | ||||||||||

| Hi all, Also new here.......i'd not heard a lot about the south beach diet until recentley and actually stumbled across the diet on a dieting review website. Specifically: South Beach Diet Phase 1. From all the positive feedback I see on the board and the results many people seem to be getting I am looking forward to giving it a shot! Good Luck all. | ||||||||||

walrock!!!That page is pretty light on info!! Be sure to check the food list and meal model sticky threads near the top of this P1 forum. There are limits on some foods (like dairy and nuts) and no limits on others like vegetables (4.5 cups per day minimum) and practical limits on things like protein (meats and LF cheeses), and highly recommended carb rich foods like dairy (milk/yogurt) and beans/legumes. From experience I can tell you this program is really ALL about the vegetables! Anyway, there's a lot more to it than that page would lead you to believe. However the really GREAT news is that you have the information here in the sticky threads and the support of others who have navigated the south beach waters sucessfully to help you find your own path! And of course, either the original book (with the updated food lists here) or the new Supercharged book are great resources for actually understanding how and why this lifestyle eating program was developed and why it works! It really is an invaluable reference if you are going to change your lifestyle to the SB program!! Best wishes!
