Question What would happen if....

you only did Phase 1 for one week and moved onto phase 2??

Just curious.

I have only been on SB for 3.5 weeks but I think the main thing about Phase I is to get yourself off of bad carbs. Sort of like a cleansing. I did not lose more than 5 pounds on Phase I so it was just about getting rid of the cravings and beginning to eat better quality foods for me.

I am sure more experienced SBers will be able to give you a more detailed answer but this was my experience.

Good Luck

Andrea

Default I suppose that would be up to you but

emalady is right. Phase one is not about losing weight its about detox, to get rid of sugar cravings, and start you off to a better way of eating. If you feel that you have shaken the sugar monkey and your ready to start adding back good carbs then I say why not. I would really try and give it two weeks just to make sure.

You would have one fruit serving or one whole grain serving per day, one week earlier! Was this a trick question??

Honestly I've never been a huge fan of P1. I did it, survived it, but was never really sure that I couldn't have accomplished the same thing in the same time frame by starting in a light P2 and just soldiering on. But I guess it did work, because I stayed with the program overall. But I couldn't wait to get to P2!! I don't understand the types that are comfortable in P1 and don't want to leave it. I was ready for P2 after about day 3!!

IMO...it's up to you. I personally still use phase 1 every now and then. Being on phase 2, sometimes I get carried away with my carbs over the weekend and on Monday's I find myself getting those dreaded cravings for more at my desk...I throw in a couple phase 1 days to help cut back on that 'needing something' feeling I get in the afternoons. I use it all the time, cause I feel that's what it's for. It's sort of my 'crutch' if you will. Catch myself falling a bit, and so I go back to what I now will straighten me back up!

If you have shaken the sugar/carb cravings, go ahead and move to phase 2. SLOWLY....

BTW, I should have said a "Starch" serving which includes both whole grains and the P2 starchy veggies. Better to start with the starchy veggies or the whole grains in whole formats than with whole wheat/whole grains flour based products like breads, pastas, couscous, and so forth. Sometimes we get too focused on the grains piece and forget about the starchy veggies as options too. A 1/2 cup chunk of sweet potato with a little smart balance and cinnamon is a pretty tasty starch addition to your P1 dinner plate to make it a P2 dinner plate!

I am in total agreement with every word you wrote here!!
I've found my phase I experience to be invaluable in learning how to manage my weight loss and maintenance. The 2 weeks I did taught me loads about me!!

IMO, I would not move to phase II until 2 weeks in phase I are completed.
Its always your choice.

Good Luck!
